A while back I told you about a lovely sale we made (via Book View Cafe) for audiobook rights to several of my novellas.  Well, today's the day they are officially available!

Follow the links directly to the good folk at Audible, or buy via Amazon or AmazonUK

DRAGON VIRUS

Scientists predicted that it was an evolutionary dead end; that the mutation would burn itself out quickly; that it was nothing to be worried about. They were wrong. Every racial type. Almost every continent. No known cause.  No known treatment. No idea where even to begin. Everything was about to change.  DRAGON VIRUS

FROM WHENCE YOU CAME

Vineart Bradhai wanted only to tend his vines, craft his magic, and be left alone. Instead, the need of desperate sailors faced with unstoppable monsters took him from his vineyards, onto the wild seas... and into history. A novella set in the world of The Vineart War trilogy. FROM WHENCE YOU CAME

SYLVAN INVESTIGATIONS

Miles to Go and Promises to Keep introduce Danny Hendrickson: human mother, faun father, 100% attitude. For the most part, he's made his own way, first as a member of the NYPD and then - when they started looking too closely at non-humans in the force - as a private investigator, straddling the line between human and fatae (supernatural) in his job the way he does in his life. He has a good life, he has good friends, he makes a difference…But he also has a dangerous life. And sometimes - when you're in the middle of magic - good friends aren't enough.

SYLVAN INVESTIGATIONS #1: MILES TO GO

SYLVAN INVESTIGATIONS #2: PROMISES TO KEEP

(I hope to have a link for the limited edition trade paper of MILES TO GO/PROMISES TO KEEP very soon now, too)

The OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE is replicated below, in all its glory.  But the important thing for readers of this blog:

YES, THERE WILL BE AUDIO VERSIONS OF FROM WHENCE YOU CAME. AND DRAGON VIRUS.

AND "MILES TO GO" AND "PROMISES TO KEEP."

And yes I am very ljf*&jh!; excited.

(I've already heard from the narrator for the first two projects, and he seems to be having a good time with them.  Updates when/as I have 'em, including on-sale dates...)

Book View Café Signs Deal with Audible

Audible acquires audio rights to more than 100 works by award-winning and nominated authors in multiple genres

August 21, 2013 -- Book View Café (BVC), the author-run publishing company, today announced an agreement with Audible, Inc., the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content. The worldwide English-language audio rights deal, which includes a substantial part of BVC’s rapidly growing catalog, will make more than 100 works of romance, science-fiction, fantasy, young adult, mystery, as well as nonfiction titles available as audiobooks to a global readership. Book View Café’s impressive line-up of author-members includes Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick award winners and New York Times bestsellers.

“Having our titles available at Audible is further evidence of the momentum Book View Café has gained in the past year,” says Pati Nagle, BVC president. “In that period we’ve launched our new online bookstore, signed distribution agreements that are getting our ebooks into libraries and online booksellers worldwide, published 113 works, taken on six new members, and seen our first New York Times ebook bestseller for a BVC original.” She adds, “It’s a huge win for BVC, enabling us to outsource our audiobook services and give our authors immediate access to a vibrant and growing market segment.”

BVC’s business development manager Chris Dolley agrees. “This is the first of more such deals,” he says. “We look forward to making other titles we acquire available at Audible going forward. We want all of our authors to benefit from more exposure to Audible’s engaged and increasingly significant audience of book lovers. ”

“We are delighted to add titles from this strong group of Book View Café authors to the Audible catalog,” said Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson. “Our members, who download an average of 18 books a year, will especially welcome this increased selection among many of their favorite genres.”

The email fairy brought two bits of Good News this week!

1.  The contracts from Audible for all four PSI novels (HARD MAGIC, PACK OF LIES,  TRICKS OF THE TRADE and DRAGON JUSTICE) arrived! So now the entire Cosa Nostradamus catalog will be available in audiobook, and I just have to convince them to take the novellas, too...

2.  We've sold Japanese rights to COLLARED (by my alter ego L.A Kornetsky)!  Details to come.

Some good news to start the week: I am informed that Audible has taken all four of the PSI novels (HARD MAGIC, PACK OF LIES, TRICKS OF THE TRADE, and DRAGON JUSTICE) for audio book. I don't know when who or how yet - updates as I have 'em, if I get 'em (nobody tells the author nuthin').

Here's hoping they do well, and we'll be able to talk them into taking the Sylvan Investigations novellas as well... :-D

------------------------------------

Not to be outdone, my alter-ego L.A. Kornetsky also had a good weekend, with two new book-blogger reviews of COLLARED, both quite complimentary, including the closing line of "a witty and entertaining detective adventure" from the Feathered Quill and "(a) charmingly likable series" from Cozy Chicks.

Yay Team Kornetsky!

If you were waiting to ask for a bookplate for a book-gift, by the way: today is the last day. If it's not in the mail by tomorrow morning, it will have to wait until January. I'm not going anywhere near a post office until then....

Good news on a Friday afternoon, via [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia: Tantor will be doing the audiobook edition for WEIGHT OF STONE: Book 2 of The Vineart War.

Am very pleased about this, yes. Hoping they can get Anne Flosnik to do a repeat performance.

Meanwhile, it seems as though the Money Fairy is flitting through my f'list, repaying debts and bequeathing Found Funds. May she tap each and every one of you on the nose, this weekend...

Y'know how, in the crazy of the holiday season, things can sneak up on you? Like, oh, an audiobook release?

Yeah. Ooops. Heh.

But here it is!

Buy direct from Tantor Media

Find 'em at BN.com

Via Amazon.com

Download MP3s via Audible.com

No, I don't know why the CD editions all have different list prices, or what the difference between the Expensive Edition, the Library Binding or the regular edition are -- they're all unabridged CDs.

Anne has a lovely voice, and really got into the lush feel of the story, but oh, it's so weird hearing your words "acted!" I need to sort of approach this sideways, before I'm comfortable hearing it all the way through. But do let me know what y'all think!

EtA: and before I forget, again, here's the link to the S&S author page, including a short video interview I did...
lagilman: coffee or die (FnF)
For those who prefer your epic fantasy in the traditional format (oral storytelling), the audio version of FLESH AND FIRE is now available for pre-order:

Via the audio producer directly

via BN.com (note; there are three different entries at B&N, all with different pricings, but two claim to be CDs, not mp3s. Go by the Tantor guidelines above....

At Amazon.com, where there is only the one listing

Sadly, in a failure of marketing, it's not being released until after Christmas. But hey, a great use for a gift card! And if you e-mail me ahead of time and tell me you're buying it for someone else, I can send you a signed sticker to put on the box, just for kicks. :-)

meanwhile, fave quote of the year, via GalleyCat:

All year Google and the Authors Guild have struggled to finalize over Google's efforts to scan millions of pages of books into an online database. When asked about the settlement in June, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos wondered why Google should "get a prize for violating a large series of copyrights."

For once, Bezos and I are in agreement, of for totally different reasons...

Good news - audio rights to FLESH AND FIRE sold to Tantor!

Am much pleased. And now feeling even more under the hammer to finish up VINEART 2...

Dear Person (or Persons Using the Same Account Name):

Please do not attempt to claim that uploading downloads of my audiobooks over half a dozen share-sites is "helping me" or anything other than what it is -- distributing stolen material. Yeah, I agree, Audible charges too much for individual audiobooks, but you need to take that up with Amazon.com, who owns Audible.

Because all you're doing by 'sharing' these files? Is hurting the ongoing career of an author you claim to enjoy/be supporting, and ensuring that there are no more audiobooks from me at all.

nolove,

Laura Anne

W00t! Curse the Dark and Bring it On are now available as audio downloads from audible.com

And under the "bah, cats" heading -- I woke up at 5:45 this morning with Boomer making noises like a smoke detector (small, high pitched meows) that normally indicate that he wants attention but Big Bad Pandora won't let him in the bedrooom (he sits just outside the door and waits until I invite him in, thereby supporting my contention that he's actually a Labrador in a cat suit). But when I did tell him to come in, Pandora got into the act and there was Noise and I decided whatthehell, it's almost time, I'll feed them. So I hauled out, fed them in their separate corners (because Boomer is convinced Pandora's Getting Something Better and will stare at her until she abandons her food so he can go eat it). I, still being wiped out, go back to bed for an hour. I wake up two hours later (oops) with Pandora under the covers sleeeping on my thigh, and Boomer above the covers sleeping at my knee, both perfectly content and happy and why no mom, we neeeeeever fight! That would be wrong. Uh-huh, says momma twolegs, not at all convinced but soothed by happy purring snores anyway.

Off today [after word war] to work in the Park (it's gorgeous out today) and spend time with Mei-mei, whose main Thing is wanting to eat dried leaves and be BFF with dogs seven times her size.....

Y'know, I talk all the time here about my critters. Tell me about yours! Past, present, it's all good....
lagilman: coffee or die (meerkat coffee)
For those interested, my new essay is up at The Paranormal Romance Blog, telling "The Terrible Truth About Secondary Characters."

Meanwhile, I am told that the audiobooks for BRING IT ON and CURSE THE DARK will be available in April, with BURNING BRIDGES and FREE FALL in May, and then BLOOD FROM STONE in June. yayyy!

In updates of the Better Homes and Deadlines sort, the CEM is done and will go back to tomorrow morning. Writing will recommence at that point, thank god. Today was spent painting, and being on the phone with the asswipes at Home Depot, who not only can't be trusted to deliver three boxes of tiles within a two week period, but told me a different lie every time I spoke to someone there, from the salesperson who wrote up the order to the person who checked on the order for me on Thursday, to the manager who told me I was SOL today (and took almost three hours to "call me back in five minutes with the information.") And I still don't have a firm delivery date -- "maybe Thursday. Worst case, Saturday." Twenty days to deliver three boxes of very basic ceramic tiles that were supposed to arrive within 7-10 days. So everything's on hold until then, despite the fact that the cabinets are ready, and the appliances are ready, and the granite is ready to be cut, and.... *sighs*

(and yes, I know Home Depot is terrible -- had I another option I would have taken it. They had the tiles I wanted, so it was either them or look at the tiles every morning and think "that's not what I wanted.")
lagilman: coffee or die (Default)
having actually managed to accomplish...oh, about half of what she should have done, but more than was done this mroning. So...yay?

Other stuff that happened today:

I guess the response for STAYING DEAD at Audible.com was good, because they've requested the entire series (2-6) for their lineup. If I were less tired I'd be doing happy author chair dance [sub-rights modification].

Of course, I have no idea what "good response" is to Audible, so it's a modified modified chair dance I'd be doing. Still. It's always nice to get positive feedback.

Also have been invited to an anthology -- and the story is due in August. I should be able to manage that no problem, right? It's not like I have anything else going on.... *facepalms*

Oh, and speaking of Other Things Going on -- if you're tired of "R@ceF@il" and want to see "R@ceWin?" Check out Scalzi's Whatever -- http://whatever.scalzi.com/2009/03/12/mary-ann-mohanraj-gets-you-up-to-speed-part-i/ So far, interesting, even-handed, and un-Troll-infested. Long may it continue so.

And now I need some dinner, and a glass of wine, and some feline appeasement....
lagilman: coffee or die (citron presse)
STAYING DEAD is now available as an [unabridged] audio download from Audible.com. Ten and a half hours of juicy magical goodness. Slowly, one format at a time, the Cosa Nostradamus takes over the world. Also, the mass market editions of CURSE THE DARK and BRING IT ON are officially on-sale this month, for those of you who've been waiting for the mass market price!

And while we're updating, my Lunacon schedule:

the details here )

If anyone wants to get together, drop me a note here or via e-mail. Proximity and Other Obligations that weekend mean I'm day-tripping it, so don't count on being able to find me randomly over the weekend....
lagilman: coffee or die (Default)
Good lord My "Why Continuity Matters" essay's been quoted by i09, as part of their rebuttal to the NYT article about prolific authors (of which I ranted offscreen,so you're spared that)...

Discovered via a passing reference in e-mail today that Curse the Dark and Bring it On are joining Staying Dead on the Audible audiobook lineup in April. I'm just the author, I'm the last to know...

Pack of Lies update: A lot of mark-ups, and about 1300 new words today, slogging through the onset of a nasty sore throat to go with the head-cold. Hot tea, spicy soup, and naps-with-cats are being applied as needed. To me, not the manuscript.

The rest of my life is All About the Kitchen. The cabinets are ordered. The plan is to buy vintage handles, which means haunting architectural salvage houses. Oh, the trauma... Floor tile and granite for the countertops are this week. I have a vague idea in mind, but am also open to being ambushed by something perfect. This will be fun. That whimpering noise you just heard was my bank account.

Random Shit: So, I dragged myself out today to run errands, and stopped by the market to pick up a few items I needed to get through the week. I ended up in the checkout line behind a man of about my own age.
My purchases: tea, salad veggies, three head of garlic, and a wedge of stinky cheese.
His purchases: seven "Healthy Choice" frozen dinners and a candy bar.

Write your own thesis.
lagilman: coffee or die (Default)
When you wake up at 6am and think "something's different," it probably means there's snow on the ground. Dawn sounds different when it's snowing.

Some good news: I am informed by Madame Editrix that STAYING DEAD will be available in audio format the first week of March, via Audible.com.

This is also when the mass market reissues of CURSE THE DARK and BRING IT ON are supposed to hit (and the reprint of STAYING DEAD, to fill all the backorders finally, yay!)

So. I probably should do something to celebrate said events, huh? Hrm. Maye a contest...but what kind? it's almost like we're getting contest exhaustion around here in genre-land... can we come up with something different?

Gimmie your ideas, people. Be wacky. Be creative. Be traditional. Be greedy....

I'm heading back into the word mines. bbl.
