This.... is interesting.
Interesting on a human rights issue, absolutely. But also... if the court rules that corporations are not bound by this law, because they are not, legally, individuals... have they just also ruled that they cannot be considered individuals under other legal terms? Like, say, political contributions?
And if they are ruled that yes they ARE liable for acts committed in their name...
Could get interesting. Oh yes.

Under the heading "deeply surreal..."
Sep. 20th, 2010 09:21 pmI was watching tv when I heard something outside, what sounded like a voice through a loudspeaker -- but not a party-type speaker, an Official Emergency Alert voice loudspeaker. And flashing lights; several cop cars, and a truck, moving slow.
"Please go inside immediately... to avoid exposure to the pesticide, please go inside immediately and remain there until the truck has passed..."
Oh, right. I saw the announcement on NYC's twitterfeed: They're spraying for mosquitoes, to reduce the possibility of West Nile Virus.
Or...so they SAY....

A quick guide for New Yorkers wondering where their senator stands on Marriage Equality:
http://tools.advomatic.com/24/nyequality/totals?
If your senator is "opposed" or unknown," call and let them know where you stand. If they're supporting, call and thank them, encourage them to keep up the fight.
I've already thanked Senator Espada, saying "to deny marriage equality is to embrace bigotry and fear -- two things New Yorkers should stand up and reject."

my line in the sand
Nov. 9th, 2009 02:27 pm"I acknowledge that the gains we have made with the health care plan are a strong and valid first step towards reclaiming our place as a First World nation. However, as a woman who believes nobody has the right to take away my freedom of choice, the Stupak amendment is not acceptable.
And I say to those who tell me to wait, that it will be overturned, that I do NOT trust in the same organizations that said this was acceptable to reverse it later. Blind faith in anyone can get you killed -- be it by a bullet, or a wire hanger."

Attention New Yorkers!
Nov. 9th, 2009 11:20 amThe New York Assembly passed marriage equality legislation earlier this year, and Governor Paterson has pledged to sign it, so the only step left is the New York Senate.
The Senate is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10, and marriage equality is on the agenda.
You might want to let your senator know how you want him/her to vote. Give the person who answers the phone your name and address, and then tell them that you want the senator to vote for marriage equality.
(if you tell him/her to vote nay, that's your right, but please don't tell me about it. I'd like to think better of you)

Three Things on a Thursday
Oct. 8th, 2009 02:25 pmToday is all about billable hours and clearing out my in-box. Man, it's almost like having a 9-5. Except it started at 7. The cats mock me by napping within eyesight.
Three things:
If you're wondering about the recent FCC WTFkery (and yes, it may very well affect you), check out our own Badger's full take on it. Government Incompetence, as filtered through the "we're not going to actually ask anyone in the industry how it really works before we decide it's wrongbadnasty" mindset.

Dear Author Wannabees:
If you send an e-mail to an established writer, asking for their advice and/or help, please remember to strip out the name of the last person you sent it to and input the proper name. Especially if you reference loving the author's work in the body of the letter.
Your plea might go over better, that way.

If you're on Twitter and like your fantasy varied (and your fantasy authors sassy and snarky) , you might want to follow @Mag_genre_7 I'm just sayin'...
