Wow. I slept almost nine hours. I haven't done that in a while. Felt nice, even with the very odd dream about being at Necon only it was being held on what felt like Dartmouth's campus rather than Roger Williams, and the [huge] dorm had transportation portals so you could find the right wing, and I kept getting lost and the only familar person I saw was Kelly and... it was really weird.

Other than that, the extra sleep was nice. Of course, now my morning is running late...

And so, we come down to the question of the week: how many of you plan to watch the VP debate? I'm seriously undecided. I mean, yeah, history in the making, but sometime history is best read about after the fact. So I'll do what all good LJers do, I'll make a poll and YOU can help me decide.*

[Poll #1271014]

EtA: man, you people are going to be disappointed if there's no train wreck, aren't you?

*all poll results are non-binding and for entertainment purposes only

I'd say 30% chance there's a train wreck, 10% chance she bows out with a convenient excuse, 10% chance Fox News spins it as a Palin victory, and a 50% chance we'll all enjoy the SNL take on the debate more than we'll enjoy the actual debate itself.

Meh. Don't have a TV, may or may not be online at the time, have little use for the angsty media circus that our elections have become... when the transcriptions come in, I will read it. I process information better that way anyhow, and will in that manner get the dialogue free of hyper-emotional camera pans and such.

Egad, commentary. Politics: the thinking person's spectator sport?

..True. Although I feel that stuff can always be checked on Youtube, with the added bonus of replays and fast-forwards when one wants them. Not to mention you could get screencaps for interesting macros when someone makes a funny face.

I know several blind people who watch more TV than I do. So I'm rather unlikely to watch it.

None of the above because I will be elsewhere at that time and thus the debate will be over by the time I return home. I will, however, be sitting down at the computer to catch the analysis and view whatever is available online.

I won't be watching it because I'll be at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs play the Dodgers.

With all the excellent post season baseball on tonight, why watch a debate?

Watch it for the train wreck, and so we can all snarf about it after. That's my plan.

If you're being irresponsible, you could play Palin Bingo. (Print out a card, check off boxes as she says key words.)

Watching it for the train wreck, though I'll probably turn it off in a fit of anger at least 4 times. Again, the old debater in me can't really stand actual political election debates. They drive me nutters.

Intellectually I'm aware of that, but I see a pair of people at podiums talking about politics and I get war flashbacks. It's very alarming to some people, which is why I only watch them with my bf (also an ex-debater, yes our everyday life is hell for most people).

From Letterman's Top 10 after the debate last week: McCain claimed he had more fun at the Lincoln-Douglas debate.

I voted for the sound turned off option because you can turn on CNN and watch "the lines."

The lines tell all.

I watched the presidential debate while playing Free Cell on my laptop, so it would be fair to say that mostly, I listened. I knew I'd get fidgety otherwise.

Another option: I'll be listening to it on the radio while I work, because there's no television near the computer where I work in the evenings.

It's a oh-my-God o'clock in the morning here, and anyway I don't a a TV.

Edit for the above post:

It's AT oh-my-God o'clock in the morning here, and anyway we don't own a TV.

Ordinarily I wouldn't watch it as my tv doesn't work at home. However, I'm on the west coast visiting the Blaylocks so Viki and I may watch it (Jim won't be home from teaching early enough)...I was tempted to just watch the SNL take on it, but I guess I'll force myself to watch. And if I do, so must you!

I *am* going to be very disappointed if there's no trainwreck...

I might dig out the vodka and play this while watching: http://tech.mit.edu/V128/N43/drinkinggame.html

Though if I was watching with friends, bingo would be fun:
http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/10/1/171917/937

I so wanted a set of bingo boards for the presidential debate on Friday...

the ONLY way I could watch the debate--with company.

You bet-we're seeing Tim and Serena tomorrow.
