Many years ago, I caved and bought my first Palm, a Vx. I named him Bunter, because what else would you call something that was going to gently take over and organize your life?
Bunter 1.2 came about when Bunter had to be replaced -- same model, same software, same everything. And he performed beautifully for many years of meetings, commuting, plane-reading, and generally acting as my brain (and far more dependable than the meat one, sadly).
But thing started to slow down, and the screen was getting scratched, and it became time to retire him to easier pastures (i.e. my mom, who will use him as an address and date book only).
And so, today, I put hands on Bunter 2.0. A Tungsten E, silvery and shiny and while I'll miss my faithful Vx, I can't wait to start putting him through his paces...
Now to see if my old software will translate without making me froth and stress. Wheeee!

Date: 2004-04-06 05:59 pm (UTC)Please, let me know how the transfer goes, okay? (Although I probably don't want to know. I keep telling myself I don't want a new one because I don't want the hassle of moving the copious stuff I have on the current one to the new one.) But tell me anyway, okay? :-)

Date: 2004-04-07 08:54 am (UTC)But since I can just beam most of the enedful stuff (note files, address categories) it's not too horrible a deal. It's just the calender that's being a pain.
Sorry. I know you wanted to hear that it was a grumpy bear and a half. But it wasn't. And the setup on my laptop was the quintessential breeze.

Next time we're at a con together I'll beam you over a picture of a certain meerkat with a moose that I took at Philcon in 1999 that you might get a kick out of :)

Date: 2004-04-07 06:43 am (UTC)Besides, I intentionally didn't get connectivity for my Palm. Same reason I don't put games on it. Same reason why I don't have 'net connetion via my cell phone (although I may break down on that at some point because it would be very useful). They're work-toys, not distraction-toys.

Date: 2004-04-07 06:48 am (UTC)My quirk is that I didn't enable text messaging or IM...I don't need that kind of distraction, that's for sure. Besides, maybe it's the one area I'm a caveman about, but I just don't see how texting is easier than just calling and talking to someone.
