lagilman: coffee or die (truth to power)

Much good news around the country in terms of the Republicans being told where they get off, but I am disgusted to report that we're still stuck with Joe L. here in Southern New England.

Bah.

Still. We tilted, country overall, Blue. Bush, no doubt, will pretend it didn't happen, and demand better Diebolt machines for the next election....

On a related topic, my mother informed me last night at dinner that the spouse of an old friend -- now retired -- now works as a stoolie for the government, reporting "unAmerican conversations." He apparently takes this, and the implications thereof, quite seriously. I have informed her that she needs to send him to my house during one of my dinner parties. His fascist little head will spin so fast and so hard trying to keep track of who is saying what, it (his head) will explode. And we'll all get on new and exciting lists!

Watching the return of the Blue (some Blue) with much-needed relief, but it all just feels so...sad and broken and tragic. Would have liked to see the Dems win through actual winning, and not just because they stepped back and let the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot and pretty much every other part of their anatomy.

I feel terribly (and unattractively) aged by it all...

And I'm not even an American....

Indeed, I rather bungled that. I was all set to hit your Sunday reading and accost you afterwards when I realized I had this little thing called "breakfast with my editor". My whole WFC weekend was kind of like this -- disorganized and preoccupied -- although now I can't wait for next year's, when I'll actually have a much better idea of what I'm doing.

But somewhere, somehow, I will grab your brain.

Oh yes.

There will be brain-grabbing.

For the first time in my life I voted a straight Democratic ticket. Those who have known me for a while will realize what a departure that is for me...

Yeah, I did the same thing. I call it voting strategically. It's a shame it had come to this.

I'm watching the VA race and holding my breath. As of 0300, 99% reported and Webb was 7000 ahead. I'm rather...disgruntled about the Marriage Amendment passing, for quite a few reasons, including the obvious. But I'm hoping that Webb (admittedly, the lesser of two evils) manages to pull it out. It looks like, from what CNN.com is staying, Senate control will hinge on who wins VA. Let the best man win (and please don't let it be Allen).

Well, I have a lovely distraction of multiple DVD/CD disks waiting for you - ping my email with your new address, please?

(I'm going to want the DVDs back, but the CDs are all yours to pimp far and wide. Want some vids to go with that?)

I am dancing for joy over the defeat of Rick Santorum here in PA. Wahooo!

CT is where I vote absentee. I'm just thanksful that Lieberman didn't provoke a Republican win. I was hoping that Lamont would pull it off, but … I'm just thankful that the Republican didn't win.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to vote FOR a candidate some day, instead of just voting against the other guy/gal?

Sheep. You are really nice to them. To paraphrase a famous phase: the better I get to know most people (present company excluded of course!), the better I like my cat.

Oh God, that sounds like Nightwatch. Watching BABYLON 5 in this environment is...eye-opening.
