My heart hurts...
Feb. 21st, 2004 09:39 amAnd so in the news we have one mayor for, and one governor against the legallity of same-sex civil marriages.
Mayor Dailey -- why not? http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-gay19.html
The Governator -- Absolutely not.
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Gay-Marriage-Calif.html (oooo, what a shock! Apparently it's okay to sexually annoy women if you're a man, but not to join in a committed relationship if your genitalia match)
Do you get the feeling that the country's a wee bit divided on this topic? I don't get what the fuss is all about, myself I mean, if you've got objections, don't marry someone of the same sex! There. All taken care of. Get the hell out of other peoples' lives, now.
And meanwhile, Bush has seated a noted anti (legal)-abortion judge. Apparently stuffing through your preferred people/agendas at term-end was bad when Clinton did it, but okay when Bush does it. *grumble*
And on federal fronts, still the Ashcroft-led insanity continues. And Republicans on the right are freaking out over Bush's planned immigration plan -- http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/21/politics/21IMMI.html?hp
I've heard a number of people talking about leaving the country if Bush wins another term. It's starting to sound like an appealing option. And I don't say that lightly. My heart hurts for what this country has become in four short years -- there are ways to recover from fear and pain. Paranoid and phobic protectionism isn't it. IM(voting)O, anyway.
