So, there's this entire article in the New York Times about the new trend in menswear being skiny, skinny jeans. Really skinny, so much so that you have to make like a greased acrobat to slide into them.

They claim it's a reaction away from the preponderance of boot-cut styles over the past few years.

Uh-huh.

Fashion Industry Guys? Here's a clue. Design jeans that fit, are comfortable, that give you enough room to walk without chafing but don't slide off your ass or flap around the ankles, that hug the form but don't divulge what you had for lunch, and we will buy them, male and female. Maybe not at the $500-700 price tags you were quoting or these uber-punk style jeans, no, but we'll buy them in quantity, oh yeah.

Oh, and make them available in basic black, and a couple of shades of blue, and maybe a nice weathered gray or brown, and we'll buy one of each. Maybe two. I have no interest in acid-washed, pre-ripped, ultra-faded or pre-stained. I can do all those things myself -- that's what jeans are for!

AMEN! "Fashion" has been scamming the world long enough, playing on people's fears of inadequacy and longing for acceptance.

Clearly you need to discover the farm-supply catalogues. Now there is basic dressing, built around jeans and Carhartts.

My last jeans were ordered from, of all places, Chadwicks. They have a little more stretch in them than I prefer, but the price and the curt were basic, and they've worn extremely well.

But I still miss my Gap straight-legs. Basic blues and blacks, fit at the waist, curved at the hip and rear, and didn't flare anywhere. My last pairs are in the 'don't wear in public' stages, alas...

Best I've found are the Lee jeans in the JC Penney catalog and web site. Basic cut, basic colors, a little stretch in the blend; I get the side-elastics 'cause that gives me the waist:hips ratio I need.

I usually order my jeans out of the same catalogue I order my boots from, Just Justins. I get a few other western wear catalogues, too, but look at them more for stage stuff than for anything else.

Some of the Western bling is...interesting.

Just today I got a special sale offering: an entire line of leather goods in colors not known in nature. All thrown together. Any old how. On the same piece of leather. Even my Fat White Guys couldn't carry that off (she said, having tacked one up this morning in a bridle with Swarovski crystals in the browband--complete with swan logo--purple saddle pad with gold piping, and purple whip to match).

There's WAY too much cowboy bling for me. I do stop in at a great place in Central PA called Back to Basics every time I'm driving to Pittsburgh. I always get at least one new shirt there. A lot of my stage wear comes from them, these days.

My lj isn't new. It's just that I haven't been keeping up with it all that much, but want to start doing so. Alex doesn't have one. One thing at a time. First, this summer, I need to finally give her a web site. Then, maybe, she'll try an lj (but I doubt it).

No matter what the Fashion Industry does, I'm going to stick with my Wrangler Cowboy Cut Slim Fit jeans. In blue and black, mostly. I like them, they fit me well, they look good on stage.

I vote we make Fashion Industry Guys wear the jeans they design for us. In a size down from what might actually fit them.
Then we surround them with whatever food they prefer most, and make them try and sit down while we hold it just out of reach.
