lagilman: coffee or die (almost-there dragon)
Wednesday, I admit, there was no liveblogging. Mainly because I was home long enough to check on progress, reassure the cats, and dash off again.

Thursday, um, likewise.

(hey, people were in town. Meals to be eaten. Gossip to be exchanged. Also, the sound of tile being cut is actually worse than the sound of tile being pulled off walls. Higher-pitched. V. distracting.

However, I can report that lo, there is Finished Wall! And Finished Floor! And Implements of Showering!

However, the toilet they installed Did Not Flush. And so the old one is back in while we wait for a replacement. And I can't actually USE the shower until they finish grouting on Monday.

And there's still painting the walls, installing the sink, and reglazing the tub to go. But that sound! It is the sound of the dragon warming up at the end of the tunnel!

--------------
And the walls, at least, have been primed. (the ceiling will wait until Taller Person is available). If I can finish the painting this weekend, then it should all be over but the bill-paying by Tuesday. Maybe....

"I'm not resigning!" "Yes, you are. "No, I'm n-- ok, I guess I am." -- VP Suleiman says that Mubarak has resigned - http://aje.me/ajelive

The revolution has accomplished its goal. Now the long haul begins. Can Egypt move into the future without falling into the dangers of the past? Can they build a stronger people in terms of education and welfare and wealth, and embrace a peaceful coexistence with those of different beliefs both inside and out of their borders?

My hope is that they remain a shining light, an example of what is possible, and that they drag the rest of the Middle East -- and the rest of the world, East and West, north and south, -- into following suit. I know it's probably impossible, highly improbable. But improbable is not impossible, and highly impossible is still entirely possible.
