lagilman: coffee or die (bye-bye)
Woke this morning to the news that Tony Hillerman has died.

*moment of silence*

A full and accomplished life, that one.
---------------------

my life is nowhere near that accomplished but I'm going to try and pack an awful lot into today, as I woke up and thought "self, you leave for Seattle tomorrow, and your to-do list ain't nowhere near done."* Making a full pot of coffee and revving up for the day...

*for various overbooked, possibly obsessive levels of 'done'

Over on her LJ, Second-Best-Evah Agent (after our own Madame Agent/[livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, of course) Lucienne Diver/[livejournal.com profile] varkat is running Urban Fantasy Week, and asked me to play along. Today I'm holding forth on the challenges of trying to convince people that something Real is also Fantastical....

and we're giving away a copy of FREE FALL, too!

I am sitting at my desk when I see flashing red lights and hear loud voices, not angry or urgent but definitely het-up. I look outside, and there are two NYFD ambulances backed up next to each other, with the crew getting into heavy coveralls, and strapping on gear., But they're doing it in a surprisingly laid back fashion, complete with joking around, so my first thought is they're on a training mission or some routine task. Then I reaize that there's a fire truck parked up the road, just out of line of sight from my apartment. And another one, beyond that.

Actually, there were four trucks and three ambulances, and one SUV, at a quick wheel-count. So all right, I'm a curious meerkat: I shove on my shoes and go take a look.

Apparently, the construction scaffolding on the condo going up next to us fell down (or parts of it, anyway) into the Rather Main Road. The NYFD went up to put things to rights. Nobody hurt, nothing damaged, but I bet there's a construction company that's gonna have a nasty fine waiting for them in the morning....

(the construction company took shit once before, for debris landing on the house next door during the actual building phase, but that was [reportedly] more along the lines of "accidents happen on windy days." This.... not so much.)

And because it's me, of course there's a picture, taken from across the street
here there be flashing lights )
