lagilman: coffee or die (nate-and-hardison)

Tonight, I was closing the tasting room alone, after dark, and our last (male) customer was lingering.  He seemed like a perfectly ok guy, but something was making me slightly twitchy.  So I texted a local friend to say “hey, can you call me at this time (when I would be walking to the bus stop), just in case?”

Local (female) friend shows up at close. With a baseball bat.

(the bat was in the car, not carried in.  But it, and she, were there without my needing to ask)

I felt slightly silly. OTOH, my spidey danger-sense rarely tingles.  I listen when it does.

I wish you all such friends, every night.

Good for her and glad you're OK.

My female employee put a message on FB last week to ask if a male friend could come up to the shop. We'd just got back so we ran into town and eventually found her in the pub (it was after closing). Turns out that 6 months ago a male customer got very over personal and came behind the counter to try and kiss her, then last week came back. He left of his own accord, in the end, but her friends did come up, for which I am eternally grateful.

She also feels a bit silly but she really should not, because the issue is that you do not know what the hell people might do, and better safe than sorry. Your friend was right to bring the ball bat.

Glad everything's okay. It's important to listen to one's instincts. Even if they turn out to be wrong, the worst that happens is that you've internally misjudged someone you're likely never going to see again anyway.

What Nick says, yes. Smart to call a friend.

One of our seldom spoken rules at the museum: we don't open unless there are two people there. Just in case. Smart to call a friend. Happy it wasn't needed.

if there is ever a next time, suggest she wear a baseball cap and then carry the bat... fandom yanno.
