The definition of friendship...
Nov. 20th, 2016 09:24 pmTonight, I was closing the tasting room alone, after dark, and our last (male) customer was lingering. He seemed like a perfectly ok guy, but something was making me slightly twitchy. So I texted a local friend to say “hey, can you call me at this time (when I would be walking to the bus stop), just in case?”
Local (female) friend shows up at close. With a baseball bat.
(the bat was in the car, not carried in. But it, and she, were there without my needing to ask)
I felt slightly silly. OTOH, my spidey danger-sense rarely tingles. I listen when it does.
I wish you all such friends, every night.

Date: 2016-11-21 09:26 am (UTC)My female employee put a message on FB last week to ask if a male friend could come up to the shop. We'd just got back so we ran into town and eventually found her in the pub (it was after closing). Turns out that 6 months ago a male customer got very over personal and came behind the counter to try and kiss her, then last week came back. He left of his own accord, in the end, but her friends did come up, for which I am eternally grateful.
She also feels a bit silly but she really should not, because the issue is that you do not know what the hell people might do, and better safe than sorry. Your friend was right to bring the ball bat.
