Momma meerkat is feeling particularly irritated tonight: some of the more vulnerable (mostly female, mostly young) members of SPN fandom are getting a spate of anon hatemail, particularly on Tumblr. For the most part they're rallying - supported by friends and total strangers. But the fact that anyone thinks this is... I don't know WHAT they think it is, if they think it's okay, or that it makes them clever, or particularly brilliantly vicious.

Sending hatemail for lulz, especially when you deliberately target people who've been open and upfront about battles with depression, makes you nothing but pathetic. Or, in the parlance: too low to kick and too slimy to step on.

But not too low or slimy for a meerkat to chew up and spit out, if they get within reach.

And the fact that the people (and I use that term loosely) sending the hate are organized and have a damn agenda makes me really furious. I've seen more than one post saying words to the effect of, "We won't stop until we get what we want."

The consistent wording makes me think that it's one or two individuals with a macro, but that makes it no better for being concentrated malice.


I'll admit, at this point I'm out of patience (tho not sympathy) for anyone at-risk who hasn't turned off anon asks/email. Dudes, if you have vermin creeping into your house, the first thing you do is close the access points...

(You allow 24 hours for people to realize what was happening and recover from the shock, but at this point it's just 'close the damn window! close the damn window!")
