I suspect they were afraid of a rain of tampons falling upon them from the gallery when they voted to remove women's reproductive rights from Texas.

If wads of cotton can terrify them so, the seemingly-inevitable revolution may not be bloodless, but at least the blood will be quickly mopped up....

I just read an interesting post by JMS theorizing that this is the legislative version of an abusive man lashing back at "uppity" women. Women voted overwhelmingly for Obama, so now women are being punished in a way that directly prevents them from climbing out of poverty or having bodily autonomy. Banning tampons and pads from the floor (presumably this includes female legislators?) is just a way of making sure that women know that their biology makes them inferior.

I can really see it.

If so, they have BADLY miscalculated. Or they (quite probably) forgot about the Internet. Once several hundred thousand people observed the first filibuster and the fallout from that, money started pouring in to the relevant Democratic coffers. And it hasn't stopped coming.

It's been miscalculations since the runup to the last election; people are either assuming that they can have another midterm sweep like the one in '10/are safe due to gerrymander or are trying to get in their last digs before they're voted out en masse. Or both.

That said, I don't think Governor Goodhair cares. He's taken his last opportunity to suck up to the anti-choicers, personally benefit his sister, and buff what he thinks are good Tea Party credentials for another Presidential run. I kind of hope he will run again. Chewing him up and spitting him out a second time will be satisfying.
