AP Interview: Trump says Obama was "terrible" student who didn't qualify for Ivy League

More proof that Trump is a sleaze who will do anything to get a publicity buzz. Which, if you've been paying attention since the 1990's, you already knew. But seriously...WTF?

From the article: "I heard he was a terrible student." On the basis of.... what? His high school does not release transcripts, but Obama admits he wasn't a star pupil in high school.

Me neither. High school bored a lot of us. That doesn't make us terrible, just, mostly, average.

And yet... after Columbia (no slouch here) Obama went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude 1991 and was president of the Harvard Law Review (NOT a shabby accomplishment). So how did he "not deserve" to be admitted? Clearly, he excelled while there. Maybe, like me, they saw potential beyond the grades. Maybe his GRE scores rocked the scale. Maybe, like George W, someone pulled strings (oh no, wait: Non-wealthy, non-white. No strings get pulled there).

I have my own beefs with Obama, dog knows. But attacking his academic record is high on the WTF-o-meter.

Sort of like attacking him for not issuing an Easter proclamation. Theater of the absurd.

More seriously, if I give Trump points for cleverness, this might be an affirmation action dogwhistle.

Yeah, I am originally from Staten Island, and am no stranger to Trump's "look at me!" antics.

As far as his own qualifications...how many times did Mr. Trump have to declare bankruptcy, again? ;)

Oh, I love it when the right-wing crazies come out of the woodwork. The more chaos over there, the better it is over here. Because frankly, the way things have gone the past couple of years (much of which can be blamed on St Barry of Oahu, more's the pity) we need all the help we can get to keep the White House. Because heaven forfend the right get hold of it now.

From what some of my Hawai'ian college friends told me, Punahou is a tough-ass school academically. So what if he wasn't a star pupil there? He clearly got an education that prepared him for where he's been since. I'm not even touching the Trump craziness.

Getting a lot of free publicity, ain't it?

I feel like in his head he's like, "You think you know how to troll the American public for attention and money, Mrs. Palin? Step aside and watch a master."

I'm starting to think that Trump is doing the Democratic Party a huge favor by behaving like this. The longer the crazies talk, the worse they sound.

What you're seeing is the Hot Air Balloon phenomenon.

Someone (who likely at some point was grounded) starts to get success. When that continues for a long enough time, that person begins to believe that everything they say and do is gold. This is supported by their legion of sycophants who constantly surround them, also trying to get a bit of their success as a part of it.

Eventually, their balloon continues to rise, the atmosphere gets thinner and thinner causing them to go even higher. But eventually either they make some outrageous statement, they are called out for it and POP! they fall back down.

Depending on how big the hole is and how quickly it can be patched (and if they fell all the way back down to earth) they may start the process All. Over. Again.

And, as I said above, he's going for the crazy shite instead of the things Obama can legitimately be called on.

You just described the ongoing strategery of the entire GOP these days.

Plus, I think that whoever ultimately becomes the GOP candidate in the general election will be a sacrificial lamb at best, since they know that they have no one who can legitimately compete against Obama on the issues that people actually give a crap about. That's not to say that the outcome of the election is a foregone conclusion, as that would be courting disaster.....however I think they're going to keep in reserve anyone who can really win for 2016.

Hubby sucked in high school too, never pulled in anything over a B. In college, he was nearly straight As, made the National Dean's List, was in Phi Kappa, graduated Magna Cum Laude.

I didn't get on the Honor Roll until my very last semester of high school myself. And not for trying either, lol.

The thing that really makes me laugh about this is the fact that Trump donated significant money to Rahm Emmanuel's mayoral campaign.

Not that I really needed another reason to question the legitimacy of his newfound birther pout-rage, but just sayin. ;p

I'm pretty sure it's an affirmative action dog whistle. There is an entire conspiracy thing out there about Obama not releasing his uni transcripts.

Considering his track record in NYC real estate

I'd sooner he were back in showbusiness. Then again, he may well see US politics as a mere extension of showbiz.

Maybe they got tired of telling people they wanted to cut taxes for the rich so they could cut services for everyone else, or realized that everyone else outnumbered the rich people.
