This headache is not getting any better. Plans for the day under revision.

Meanwhile, the world, it continues to make me wonder WTF?

Dear Catholic Church: Do you REALLY think that's what Jesus would say to do? Really? Not Paul -- Jesus. The guy you say was God's son? You think this is what he meant when he said "love your neighbor as yourself"?

Yesterday the Archdiocese of Washington DC threatened to cut off social services money provided by Catholic Charities to the homeless in the Capital [if marriage equality laws were passed] because the church hierarchy abhors the very idea of gay marriage.

Um, that's just stupid. Using the poorest of the poor as a weapon makes you look like Scrooge. That sort of thing will SO backfire.

Damn. Well, they are not a religious entity. They are a political entity. Their tax exempt status should be revoked. No question.

I dont quite remember that part of Jesus' teachings...

Maybe the Church should just go back to selling indulgences.

They have, haven't they? I could swear that I'd read that.

...

No credible sources off the top of my head (and too lazy at the end of my day to google) so feel free to ignore me. Freely admit to potential of being wrong.

I remember the listings of what prayer would give you which indulgence in my prayer booklet back in grade school. When it was explained to me by the nun I had for religion class, I felt like I was having to pay twice for something. Nevertheless, I kept my thought to myself; why give the nuns any ammo?

Oh boy, that theologian from Notre Dame probably got himself put in the crosshairs by his comments. Locally a nun got kicked out of her work due to her beliefs in the ordination of women, and a religion teacher who wrote a letter to the editor in support of the nun got called on the carpet for it by her parish pastor.

Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

So apparently the new Church motto is WWJB: Whom Would Jesus Blackmail?

Haven't even read the article yet, but just looking at the link title made me exclaim, "The hell???!!!!????"

This looks like an article that will piss me off royally, I may need to calm down from other frustration/stresses/depressions before reading it...

And immediately after releasing their statement, the Bishops sat down to a nice dinner of shrimp linguini (or maybe beef stroganoff). Oddly, they did not choke to death on the horror of the abomination.

I ditched the Church over thirty years ago and have never been sorry for that decision.

This was one of the biggest reasons why I left the RCC years ago. The local archdiocese was all up in arms over the pending city charter giving healthcare coverage to domestic (ie, unmarried and same-sex) partners of city workers. The church circulated a petition. I pissed my family off by refusing to sign. "Love the sinner, hate the sin!" my mother intoned at me, like she knew what she was talking about, to which I promptly retorted, "How is taking someone's healthcare away loving them?!"

It was a very quiet car ride home that day. That was well over a decade ago. It seems the RCC still has not learned anything about Jesus since.
