"I acknowledge that the gains we have made with the health care plan are a strong and valid first step towards reclaiming our place as a First World nation. However, as a woman who believes nobody has the right to take away my freedom of choice, the Stupak amendment is not acceptable.

And I say to those who tell me to wait, that it will be overturned, that I do NOT trust in the same organizations that said this was acceptable to reverse it later. Blind faith in anyone can get you killed -- be it by a bullet, or a wire hanger."

Federal employees have had abortion explicitly excluded from their health care coverage since Clinton signed the bill authorizing this. [Note that premiums remained the same.]

I don't have great hope that Congress will correct this. I do have expectations that women will band together in some way to insure funding for those who need but cannot afford abortions.

I'm not sure, but that may have been included as a "poison pill" to make sure the whole "reform" process dies.

Dennis Kucinich on Democracy Now today said everything that I've been thinking about this, and more. Full transcript here.

To me, anything less than single-payer with no restrictions is unacceptable. I realize that is an unrealistic utopian ideal, but I still feel very strongly about this. The bill that was passed in the House over the weekend is an epic failure, and not just the Stupak amendment, but the entire bill is totally unacceptable.

Some things are unacceptable in total.
Rep. Stupak, Rep. Lynch, etc., need replacing--along with 99% of the Gruesome Offal Party members in Congress.
