GoodReads won't let me "claim" my author status as it says I do not have same first name as author Laura Anne Gilman.

They fixed it by changing my account to "Laura Gilman."

Um...

(guys? it's really not polite to tell someone what they should be called, when they've already informed you of their preference, both personal and professional. You didn't change the name on my book listings, so why did you change my account?)

But, anyway. I am now up on GoodReads. I suppose I should start listing my TBR pile? (that, um, could take a while.)

Ah, don't you just love it when automated systems take over the world?

Oh, so it's not "Laura", it's "Laura".

How silly of me to get that wrong.

(Somebody messed up the entry fields in THAT database, and I'm glad I'm not the one to have to clean it up.)

I wonder if their DB can actually handle the space in there for your first name, some older DB's can't.

The lack of customer service, however, is a big problem. You'd think that during this recession that people would work on customer service to keep their business afloat, but no....

Frustrations such as this are universal.

I did read your earlier post, but I felt that other than a "hang in there" I really couldn't say anything else. I'm not a writer, so I can't really internalize what you're going through, but I can read and appreciate your perspective.

(I already was involved with the Polansky stuff on difrancis' and jimhines' posts, so I didn't want to spam anymore than necessary.)

However, I do have some good news: our oldest is already past Morgain's Revenge and is buried somewhere in The Shadow Companion. She's been telling everyone she knows that they ought to read the Grail Quest Trilogy.

Drinking at the font of LJ-knowledge is a trying and exhausting task. If a post is excessively long (and, as in the case of some of the posters I follow, *a single, 600-word, block of text*), I'm more than likely to skip it.

That, and I haven't gotten to yours yet :)

But hey, this comment just led me to a quick lesson on the correctness of "fount" vs. "font," so not all is lost, right?

I suspect this is a different person, but when I wrote about a bug with the shelves, they responded within a few hours. Hope you hear back soon.

Hmmm... I just filed for my "author status" last night.

See you there (unless they drive you away with their ineptness).

Who does Goodreads think you are then?
