Ah, September....
Sep. 1st, 2009 07:00 amWoke up this morning snuggled into bed, the temperature a lovely 58 degrees. High today is supposed to be 80. My brain and my body are both "Yes! Let's DO something!" I LOVE this weather. I LOVE autumn. Have I mentioned recently how very much I'm NOT a hot weather person?
On the less happy side...
Sheila Lukins is a name you probably won't recognize. But if you do, you know why I am sad at the news of her death. The Silver Palate Cookbook was a major step for me from 'capable in the kitchen' to 'foodie' and although I rarely look at those cookbooks now, the stepping stone is still valued....
And, for those of you wondering why your authors are all particularly cranky this week, Kat Richardson's take on the Google (mis)settlement deadline. Yeah.

To think. I was excited this morning when I saw that the highs this week were going to top out at the mid-80s. Now I'm just depressed again.
*sigh*
I want to cook stews and pot pies and soups. And yes, I'd seen about Sheila Lukins-- also a big step for me in transition from kitchen capable to foodie. Perhaps I'll cook something in her honor this weekend, temperatures be damned.

I spent the entire day in the park, working as puppy! allowed. I can't remember the last time I could actually spend all day outside and not be covered in sweat/have a heat headache/want to die...

Date: 2009-09-01 02:17 pm (UTC)This summer has been very odd in this little corner of the Midwest. The high temperatures for July were the coolest on record, and I'd bet that the recently concluded August will come close to duplicating that feat. We could use more rain (which is becoming a tradition), but the lack of heat meant we didn't slip into a drought.
When you see triple digit temperatures in the Pacific Northwest and 70's out here in SW Ohio, there's something definitely funky going on.
