If you're not paying attention to events in Iran, you should be.

Ignore the 'mainstream Media' who seems to have missed the call. It's being best-covered on-line. Facebook, Twitter... social media has become truly 'social.'

EtA: Twitter had been planning to have a 90 minute downtime tonight for maintenance. Given what’s going on over in Iran right now, that was a problem. And so Twitter has decided to reschedule the maintenance so the protests can go on. Right now, communication outlets are being blocked. People are passing around proxies so that the word can get out.

As a certain movie tells us: You can't stop the signal.

It's been pretty trippy to follow PersianKiwi and then see him quoted an hour later on NYTimes.com.

Having the Iranian news scrolling by interspersed with my normal Twitter feed puts things into pretty stark perspective. My life, and the lives of pretty much everyone I know, is quite mundane and pointless next to what's really going on in the wider world. :/

It's incredible. I wonder what will come out of this.

I agree with you, hélas. This is not surprising. Call me cynical. I predicted that even if Ahmadinejad lost, he would win, and it appears I was right. I just hope that the students don't "take it in the neck". However, China has found that our clamor for democracy goes only as far as our need for exports. I'm sure that Iran will follow it's example.

I've just had an Iranian house guest who has been blogging about this on FB. I gather the right wing media are telling us that the protesters are completely unrepresentative of the population. Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose.
