weekend update
Jun. 13th, 2004 07:14 pmFirst and foremost, there was the main goal of the weekend -- got about 5,000 words done on the first Grail Quest book. I'd say yay me except I was hoping to hit 7,500. Maybe tonight, if I get a second wind. The problem is, I hit the end of a chapter, and I'm not really happy with it, so I'm fighting the desire to go back and "fiddle" until it's golden. Mustn't. Must. Move. Forward. Argh.
And then there's the copywriting I'm doing for a new 'Bombshell' novel. A nice page-turner, thankfully, and the copy was flowing pretty well, but I'm still not satisfied. It's a slightly-new take on kick-ass vampire hunters, and I want to give it a proper marketing chance. So, once again, I'm obsessing. Perfectionist? Moi?
I've also gotten a d.y.m.k. project done and sent off, only two days late. Two more are waiting on my desk, looking at me with sorrowful and accusing eyes. Argh. Sit tight, guys, I'll get to you soonest.
But for fun I went to see Shrek 2 Saturday night. OMG. Such fun. Antonio Banderas was born to lick himself, it's true. He couldn't steal the movie from his fellow voice talents, quite, but it wasn't for a lack of trying! (and you could tell who the cat owners were, by the first bursts of laughter in the theater) The entire movie is fucking brilliant -- I couldn't breathe at several points, I was laughing so hard.
And, finally, I hosted brunch this morning for annual Parental Appreciation Day, a floating holiday celebrated by me somewhere between March and July. Since my mom's on the South Beach diet, I had to get creative. Menu was as follows:
mimosas
cold strawberry soup
whole wheat waffles (choice of maple syrup or sugarless pinot noir jam)
bacon and red pepper frittata
smoked salmon
fruit salad
various artisinal goat cheeses
We ate out on the deck, and the weather co-operated beautifully. And there's even just enough left-over to make a lunch or two!
Oh, and I got in lots of kitty-cuddling time. Good for the psyche. Hers, and mine.
So, for once, I actually feel like I got something accomplished over a weekend. Not enough, mind you, but something....
Edit: forgot to add: one injury, category stupid, resulting in the arch of my foot blooming in a just lovely black and blue and purple bruise, and a nasty-looking raised white bump that sort of screams "contusion!" *sigh*

Re: Wow--
Date: 2004-06-22 04:10 pm (UTC)It just goes on and on. I just packed most of the last of the garage (the amount of stuff a man can keep living in the same place 23 years staggers the mind...) except food in fridge, plants, grill and last cat (we're trying to integrate them differently this time...)
Water heater died Saturday--new one is on the blink (GE no less...) garbage disposal Sunday--half bath turns out to have a leaking O ring, too old to replace (I thought the faucet was new--the only thing in the house new.)
On the other hand, we're running out of things to replace. I think the house is purging itself of the last owners.
Back to box Halifax....
