lagilman: coffee or die (citron presse)

Wow. Got hit this morning with the too-much-caffeine shakes. My sinews were vibrating. I hate it when I do that to myself... thankfully there was leftover protein from last night, so I could even things up a bit. But it cost me an hour or so of productivity. Stupid meat-puppet.

Word War this morning was awesome, though. 1900 new words on V2. I did run into one wee problem, tho...

Current and wine-magic work in totally different ways, yeah. keep 'em straight, Gilman!

Now, onward to some down-n-dirty page-turning, note-taking research, and then back to the writing. Other than that, a slow reporting day. Sadness for the news of David Carradine's death but not terrible surprise -- everything I've heard or read about him suggested a man prone to bouts of extreme, um, moodiness. That there are people calling conspiracy doesn't surprise me either -- anything's possible. But I suspect it was merely one bad day too many that took him from us, not foul play.

I had met David a couple of times over the past couple of years and apparently got him on the "good days" but it probably helped that he always thought of me as a fellow artist.

He and I have a couple of buddies in common and, so far, everyone is sad but not surprised at this. For some it seems like they have been expecting this for a long time now (like since Kung Fu the original series)

The British media reports of Carradine's death paint a very different picture - his neck was not the only body part the rope was wrapped around, which is omitted from the American media reports. It was almost certainly auto-erotic asphyxiation.

The BBC has indeed changed "genitals" to "other body parts", but it's a euphemistic terminology change rather than a correction. It looks like they simply found it too indelicate for an obit, and I don't necessarily disagree. Given that even his family is officially saying it was accidental hanging rather than suicide, I'm not too inclined to think that the BBC went wild with falsified tabloid journalism. There aren't too many ways to accidentally hang oneself.

All deaths aren't equal to the person doing the dying; suicide is a pretty emotionally brutal way to go, and a less dignified but peaceful accident strikes me as a far kinder death, however uncomfortable for the survivors. I understand why his family insists it was an accident rather than suicide - they're hoping he wasn't suffering. That's probably worth whatever social discomfort accompanies the alternative(s).
