what's it all for? (the internet roundup)
Jun. 1st, 2009 10:51 amNow that I've been shoved, screaming and kicking, into a fully plugged-in age (more or less) I've had to sit down and think about what I intend to use all these various formats for.
So, after that thought, here is where I am, and what you can expect to find there, either right now, or going forward.
Main website: this is the static repository of information. Publication dates, excerpts, covers, FAQ, photos... it will all go there. Pretty much one-stop shopping for The Book Life, but not where you go for breaking news [right now, anyway].
Livejournal/Dreamwidth: The daily combined minutia, plus breaking news and random rants. As the header says, this is where professional and personal meet. Opinions, attitudes, questions and conversation. Life as usual continues here.
Cosa Nostradamus: I originally set that up so people who just wanted the Retrievers info could go there and not have to wade through all of this but... I wonder. Is it really needful? You tell me. I only get two dozen or so hits a week on it, near as I can tell... I may just close it and see about integrating a mirror onto the website, as soon as my webmistress has a spare hour or seven...?
Facebook: Mainly I'm there to keep in touch with people who don't hang out here, although there's always some writing-related content going on. Not so good for the conversations but better for the one-off rants -- think of it as LJ-lite.
Twitter: The plan is to keep that for publishing-related stuff, although considering how much of my life is tied into the industry, that can cover a whole range of topics... especially since black leather pants just got introduced into the keywords. Ooops.
e-mail: at some point RSN I hope to have LAG(at)lauraannegilman(dot)net running properly. Until then, please use lauraanne(dot)gilman(at)sff(dot)net. If you're friend/family, you know the Other Address. DYMK-related queries go to dymk(at)optimum(dot)net

Date: 2009-06-01 04:12 pm (UTC)I've already informed Twitter that their search function seems to be ignoring me. Am trying not to take it personally.

Date: 2009-06-02 05:58 pm (UTC)I'd fold the Cosa Nostradamus stuff into your main web-site, because people are often looking for you as opposed to the series and they're going to find two separate sites otherwise.
