Waiting for the dawn

I'm sitting here downloading the Sunday concert from HBO, and listening to it again (having missed bits the first time around.)

And right now it's at the point where Tom Hanks is performing that Lincoln/Copland piece. And I'm suddenly struck by the fact that, if I squint, Hanks' craggy features sort of morph into Honest Abe's, with hairline and cheekbones and hollowed eyes and determined mouth, and chin, and it feels almost like watching a Brady photograph open its mouth and speak -- almost more authentically than watching Henry Fonda or any of the other bio-pic actors in full makeup.

Maybe I need more sleep -- but it was a notion that struck me the first time I watched it as well.
