Had brunch with an old friend from high school, then came back and finished off the freelance gig from hell. Tonight, back to the revisions. But for now, I'm about to take over the kitchen to make garlic steak and spinach risotto, accompanied by a 1997 Brunello.

(time passes)

Watching the replay of the 'We are One' Concert at The Memorial. We stood for the national anthem. Can't remember the last time I felt that urge. Sang along with Bruce, and cried (I always cry at 'The Rising.). Sang along with Mary Bilge, even as we were marveling at her 6" heels. Were rapt during the speeches. Feel the surge of hope coming through the land again. Even I, cautious and cynical, feel it.

"things are gonna be much better, if you only will."

ETA: Anyone else hold their breath waiting for Samuel L Jackson to let slip with an "I got on that bus to go home, m**********r?"

Also? As much as I am inspired by Obama? I <3 Joe Biden.

How's everyone else spending this Inauguration weekend?

I loved Queen Latifah's speech with the clip of Marian Anderson segueing to Josh Groban and Heather Headley backed by the Gay Men's Chorus. A poignant reminder that for as far as we've come and as many barriers have been struck down, there are still so many more to go.

ETA because I forgot to add that wading in the shallow end of the pool, OMG, does Adam Clayton look hawt.

I had a very long agenda today, completely defeated by "We Are One." We are recording it tonight, to watch after football, again (Portions of The Family are from the Pittsburgh area. Must support Steelers.)

Inauguration

We're having an official neighborhood ball party at our house. Someone from the Obama camp called and asked if they could broadcast the event over the internet with some possible coverage from ABC. But that seemed a bit too strange and we declined. I don’t want to be worrying about how we come across to the rest of America. I want to savor what could be the most important event in my lifetime.

Bye Bye Miss American Pie?...the day the music died?

That seemed like an....odd....choice,

There have been a couple of musical choices I'm very dubious about. I'm liveblogging as it goes, to post after.

Oh I so disagree. Since I couldn't get very close to Lincoln Memorial (the line was like a mile long), I walked around for a while and decided to go to a bar. During the concert, other people got the same idea. Most of us watched TV and clapped sometimes. But when Garth Brooks started singing that song, every Boomer in that bar started singing along. And if you noticed, so was Obama!

I love Biden, too. :D I met him at a rally here, and he is just awesome. Plus, he loves German Shepherds! That gets mega-points with me.

[livejournal.com profile] vixyish, from the Pacific Northwest filk community, scored tickets for the inauguration and has been blogging her experiences.

I, by contrast, went for a family dinner-with-cousins outing yesterday and spent much of today napping it off.

Obviously not inaugurating anyone, although I think we are being remarkably relieved at your nation's choice at the moment.

All the best for your celebrations.

Oooh! I know that one. It's supposed to be a heart. As in I heart Joe Biden.

I'm in France. I spent last night having dinner with 45 crazy Brits in a teeny restaurant in a teeny village on a hill overlooking Cannes.

There are several Inauguration parties planned here for tomorrow, though, as it conveniently coincides with the time all the conference cocktail parties are getting going anyway. :) From what I understand, every single person here, regardless of nationality plans to party like it's 1999. I'm looking forward to it.
