In case anyone was wondering, the reason you're not hearing much from this quarter about recent events in Iraq (from the "just following orders" abuse scandal to
the fact that ginmar's camp has reportedly been cut off from their internet connection by order of our Friendly Haliburton Subsidiary Contractors) is not that
I don't have an opinion, but because my opinion is so vitrolic even I don't
want to hear it.

"Sometimes History doesn't repeat itself. Sometimes History screams 'WHY AREN'T YOU PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT I'M SAYING?' and lets fly with a club."

Have we learned nothing? "I was just following orders" didn't save anyone's ass at Nurenberg. Or Vietnam. So why are people so profoundly stupid as to even attempt to trot out that excuse, particularly when our admittedly retrograde military already has rules about refusing illegal orders?

When there are anti-administration newspapers all over the country (small ones, perhaps, as opposed to the idiots at old status quo U who do not question anything for fear of being called unpatriotic...) why didn't any of these soldiers immediately get hold of a journalist? This took a year to trickle out?

Mind boggling. And will probably make this fiasco of a war even harder to level out--and will guarantee no American will be safe overseas for the next 20 years.

I think I've lost my window. I've never been farther than the Lesser Antilles, and now, I don't think I can go...

I don't understand this--especially the people who say humans have a tendency to torture when the opportunity presents itself. I don't want to torture anybody! (Now, kill someone, when convinced they are a ruthless entity that will prey upon the community--I understand our ancestors' decisions to kill people to protect themselves.) Torture makes no sense--it's not even reliable to get information, for pete's sake!
