You know you're a cook/foodie when...

when you come home from many hours of travel, hungry and tired, look in the fridge, and think "ooo, I have the makings for a pepper-and-cheese frittata! Score!"

Food, coffee, laundry, and I will be human again soon. But first, to feed and appease the felines, who are Most Cranky.

And then it is Effectively December. Expect Deadline-induced Scrambling and Amusements...

a frittata is easy enough, once you get the hang of it. I'm just amused that it was my very first thought on seeing the (admittedly bare) contents of my fridge, as opposed to "heat some soup" or "make a sandwich" (or "order in," which is the NYC default for most folk).

I think that's a big part of being able to cook well, seeing the possibilities. Like, I can follow a recipe well, but for me it takes LOTS of planning. From reading your blog, you just seem to see things and put together what they can be just from that. I find it impressive!

And yeah, ordering in is a great thing. A GREAT thing. :D

mmm, yeah. I guess I do sort of 'see' the possibilties in the materials.... I have no musical ability at all but I imagine it's like knowing what chords or notes create the right melody?

My deadline is tomorrow, and I will be doing a liesurely sendoff, knowing I've done all I could. Unlike last year, when I spent the weekend in a panic to get it ready in time to not blow the deadline. I've never delivered a manuscript even a day late, and I'm not going to start now.

I've only missed one deadline by more than a week (less than a week doesn't count - if delivery extension paperwork doesn't have to be filed, it's not late). But when you have a mss due to one publisher and revisions due to another and have to start a third book in a holiday month, things can get tricky...
