He was. Damn it, he was. A gentle, wonderfully kind man. I met him the first time, lord, maybe 1978? 79? Long time ago. Didn't get a chance until many years alter to tell him tha it was his writing that brought me back to SFdom.
ForeverCon came from the amateur movie of the same name shown at one of the local conventions. So it's not original to me and I therefore can't officially grant permission - but I figure that using it is as fair use as cribbing a term from any other movie.
Hal Clement was the Guest of Honor at the first science fiction convention I ever attended, a tiny little thing held at a church on Long Island. I had no idea who he was then, which tells you how early in my SF-fan life cycle this was. I remember him being kind, gracious and well-spoken.
