Ugh-making things aside, it really was a lovely day. Spent the morning with my hands knuckle deep in words, and my lunch break with my fingers likewise in dirt and plant roots. And then let my brain take a rest in the lovely lyrics of that gift to musicals, My Fair Lady. Which, I've discovered, really does have the most wonderful 'fuck you' song in the history of the English language.

"No, my reverberating friend,
You are not the beginning and the end!
There’ll be spring every year without you.
England still will be here without you.
There’ll be fruit on the tree,
And a shore by the sea;
There’ll be crumpets and tea
Without you.
Art and music will thrive without you.
Somehow Keats will survive without you.
And there still will be rain
On that plain down in Spain,
Even that will remain without you.
I can do without you.
You, dear friend, who talk so well,
You can go to Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire!
They can still rule the land without you.
Windsor Castle will stand without you.
And without much ado
We can all muddle through without you!
Without your pulling it, the tide comes in,
Without your twirling it, the earth can spin.
Without your pushing them, the clouds roll by.
If they can do without you, ducky, so can I!
I shall not feel alone without you.
I can stand on my own without you.
So go back in your shell,
I can do bloody well
Without you!

There are, really, only two musicals I consider worth sitting through, this and Gigi. I have a lot of fun with Little Shop of Horrors and RHS but they somehow fail the 'musicals' test for me.

And now, inspired, back to the words...

Update: Spanish television variety shows are deeply surreal -- and yet entertaining -- even when you know what they're saying. Ginger beef stir fry is deeply satisfying to make and to eat. Charade is a lovely movie. Sergei is getting uppity. And sff.net appears to be down again. Bad server, no cookies. And the guy who was selling his ex-wife's wedding dress on e-bay just made it onto MSNBC. Must be a way slow news day.
