sff.net is down.

I can't check my newsgroup. I can't get e-mail.

I'm fine. Really.

*nervous whimper*

ETA: okay, we're back. And I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not, as the first e-mail I downloaded contained the following:

House At Cthulhu Corner

Words: © 2001 by Tom Smith
Music: "House At Pooh Corner" by Kenny Loggins

Christopher Robin was slain on the altar,
Where shadows of Innsmouth run deep.
Pooh didn't hesitate, Pooh didn't falter,
His master's in Rl'yeh asleep.
And I'm only a kid, I don't know what he's doin',
Let alone why the Great Old Ones want a stuffed bruin.

Help me if you can, I've got to stop
Pooh from reviving Cthulhu by one,
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done,
Circles to summon and bind,
Color them inside the lines,
Stop the cloth golem we all know as Winnie the Pooh.

Winnie the Pooh doesn't know what he's doing,
The Elder Gods got in his head.
Task after task he performs without asking
Why friend after friend turns up dead.
And the ultimate goal isn't clearly defined,
But it's taking a toll on his silly old mind.

Help me if you can, I've got to stop
Pooh from reviving Cthulhu by one,
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done,
Leave all the Deep Ones behind,
Making a cute Elder Sign,
Prepare for the final conflict with Winnie the Pooh.

Rabbit is missing, and Piglet was drowned
(It was thought accidental at first);
In a room without corners, Owl was et by a hound;
In his chest, Tigger's heart up and burst.
Now there's only us three, but we will find a way,
And I Kanga-rantee, Eeyore gonna Roo the day.

Believe me if you can, we're gonna stop
Pooh from reviving Cthulhu by one,
What do you know, I think maybe we're done,
Chris and my friends all alive,
Great Old Ones gone from the sky"

*yawn* Good morning, Mother, I guess I was dreaming -
Everythings fine -- Piglet, you can stop screaming -
What's with that dazed look, Pooh?
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh.

*mweeeeeeeeep!"

Oh, so it's not my computer malfunctioning!

Sometimes they take SFF-NET down.

Sometimes.

Certainly no comfort to notice that a couple of hours later I can't get into sff.net either, but it IS nice to know it's not just me.

Not sure if you were aware they'd been having technical difficulties lately, but back on 4/21 Jeff Dwight posted this to the help-desk ng:

>>The machine running www.sff.net is undergoing
a midlife crisis at the moment, but we hope to sooth it with tickets to
the Carribean and the promise of long-legged women.

so my best guess is that they've discovered a need for more drastic methods of bribery.

How's about groups.google.com?

(I know, it has a 3-9 hour latency.
If you want an account on my news system, just lemme know.
It'll be a Unix shell account, though, i.e., rn/nn/tin/Pine.)

Excellent!
Nyarlathotep gives it a thumbs up;
Yog-Sothoth, three thumbs and a... um, not looking.

Good stuff, good stuff.
If I had a plush Cthulhu, I'd send it to you right now. :o)

Are you in [livejournal.com profile] filk?
I'm sure they'd love this over there. :-)

You want really scary?

In honor of 24-hour Comics Day, [livejournal.com profile] filkertom (yup, he's got an LJ) spent a big chunk of this past weekend writing seventeen songs based on random word-pairs amd musical styles suggested by his journal-readers.

At last report, he was expecting to have the fully arranged MP# album for the whole collection uploaded to his Web site sometime Tuesday.
