- next chunk of Vineart War notations (aka draft 1.2)
- reread CURSE THE DARK and BRING IT ON for final errata sheet for reprints (if anyone spotted any typos, now's the time to tell me!)
- write "author notes" for same
- test-drive recipes for semi-sekrit project
- updates to web site

also: order groceries, finish putting summer clothes into storage, clip cat-nails. Oh, the excitement. Also, Giants game, natch.

Meanwhile, it looks to be another perfect September day, aiding immensely in my energy level. I enjoy all the distinct seasons of living in the Northeast, but I'm definitely an Autumnal girl -- cool mornings, soft afternoons, and then crisp sleeping weather come dusk, FTW.

Thinking book-wise (because that's how I'm thinking these days) how often do we see that kind of affinity in characters? The narrative may mention the weather, but do the characters actually interact with it on an emotional as well as physical level? Hrmm. Something to look at in my own writing. And now I'm wondering what the percentage breakdown is, and how many of us find ourselves in the right part of the world for our predilections...

When I was young, I loved Autumn best, and also really liked winter. But as I get older, I've come to hate only being home when it's dark, and gotten cold-activated asthma and knees that work better when it's hot, and even though I still work full time, I've come to love long summer days, and having flowers and fresh herbs in the garden.

I live in Ireland and the climate USED to suit me, the last two years there has been too much rain and not enough sun to keep me happy.

There's no just "no" option on the second part of the poll! :)

Actually, I'm starting to. I thought rain would be less dire than snow because of the lack of cold, but it turns out that 1. rain is annoyingly wet (who knew?) and 2. snow at least makes things *bright*, so it's not so damned *grey* all the time. :p

Florida-bred girl. Learned early on that I completely hated heat, humidity, and bugs the size of aircraft carriers. Spent majority of adulthood moving further and further north, until I wound up in NE Ohio for ten years, which was NIRVANA. Had children. Had grandparents whine about seeing said children. Since grandparents live in Florida...

Well, all I'm sayin' is the minute the ruggers hit college age, I'm running away again.

New England looks good.

We proved that, given no choice, grandparents can travel . . .

Minnesota ought to provide a similar autumnal experience to New England, but it does not.

In southern MN there isn't much in the way of a foliage turn. And fall as a whole feels shorter.

I guess I am just fussy. I pine for New England autumn.

Seasons here in the UK used to be distinct but have since become mushy. Ideally, cold, crisp winters with some snow; chilly flowery springs; warm but not boiling summers and back to cold crisp autumns would be nice. The person in Ireland who mentions too much rain has hit the nail on the head, although I like some rain.

At the moment, it's very warm, there are dragonflies and Red Admirals in the orchard, and the whole place smells of apples and woodsmoke. Pretty much perfect, despite the seasonal roar of chainsaws across the Isle of Avalon.

I do love autumn, probably best, but I listed winter, because Autumn, like the beauteous Spring, means allergy season. In winter, I like to hunker down, and my predilection for staying in seems less odd and more cozy. I do not think I could live anywhere else but NYC, but it would have to be a place with seasons. And snow. And that buttergold crispness in the air that means September.

I would be happier with Winter if I didn't have to go out into it every day, and if either heating costs had not gone up or my income had gone up in proportion!

As you know Bob, I love Northern California and consider it home.

I miss autumn, and especially north-of-the-Mason-Dixon-line autumn, and most of all New Hampshire autumn, terribly. This time of year my heart's in the cold lands.

There is no fall here.

Moved to Colorado at 13; am about to move to Wyoming-- and who knows how I'll like it. I can't see the mountains in Cheyenne! How am I going to orient myself without my permanent external compass (mountains are on the left)? Maybe the wind is going to make me craaaaazy. Maybe the sunrises will be even better? *sigh* :> here's hoping.

I used to like summer because I didn't have to do anything except lie around. Now I find summer too hot. I like Fall and Spring and find Winter too long.

I love the weather of Autumn, and the crisp feel to the air, even though the shorter daylight can be hard to cope with.

I was born in VA, but brought up in MA. I find the climate in New England in general suits me very well, though I occasionally long for the trees and hills of the Berkshires now that I live in CT.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and I moved to the other Washington (D.C.) by way of the Florida panhandle (which really only had two seasons). While the weather is closer to that of "home" than that of the sunshine state, autumn here has yet to really impress me.

I was born and grew up in the Chicago area. Here, the summers are too hot, winters too cold and the autumn is mostly a time for getting sick ( Im asthmatic). If I had a choice and could move the family business where ever I wanted it to be. I would live in Ireland ( My dad is from Dublin). Yes as the irish folk have pointed out, it rains a LOT but when it rains in the midwest it just gets grey and awful -when it rains in Ireland IME everything stays bright.

Besides, the irish accent is to die for ;-)

I went ahead and voted for autumn, but I equally enjoy winter (except when I have to drive in snow and sleet).

Autumns around here are rather nice, though I hear they are even nicer in New England, but I HATE the summers here. I just don't know where I can go where the summers are so darned miserable and I can have a nice fall. And where there are other options besides having to drive in snowy/sleety/icy weather.
