A comment in another LJ got me to wondering. And so I ask the Great LJ Overmind:

[Poll #1237951]

Spent a completely perfectly gorgeous Saturday strolling down a car-less, truck-less, cab-less Park Avenue. We went about 2 miles or so (of the 7 miles that were closed off), sharing the road with fellow pedestrians and a LOT of cyclists (including one who had a run-in with the cops for running a red light. I have no sympathy -- not ALL the cross-streets were closed off, and I'd rather the cop read a cyclist the riot act than report on a hit-and-run fatality, non? Road safety rules, Mr. Cyclist. You follows them, k?

"We claim these streets in the name of feet!
"Mommy, tell me again about when people had cars..."
"photographer vs cyclists"
"NYC: If I Can Walk it There, I can Walk it Anywhere."

We ended our stroll with lunch and a detour in the greenmarket. "Meat, cheese, bread -- ooooo, flowers!" I now have a freezer full of local-produce lamb bits (The bison steaks were tempting, but they'll still be around in the autumn.).

Two more Summer Streets are scheduled, and I highly recommend New Yorkers take advantage. (we noticed a truck out taking air samples, and suspect this is part of mini-Mayor's plan to get engine traffic reduced in Manhattan. If he can prove a significant pollution reduction in one 12 hour period, go him!) They were also handing out info on recycling, fitness, and if you get there early in the morning, they're giving away (and fitting properly) bike helmets.

A stop to replenish gardening supplies (my basil and the spike plant need repotting), and homeward I slogged. Exercise, socializing, and shopping accomplished; time to get back to work...

How are you spending this beautiful day?

I spent much of it inside stores, running errands. I have many ideas for redecorating my bedroom now, and a few more regarding how to do the bathroom.

I spent the day walking though not on the summer streets route (that is next Saturday for me). I met up The Fed for brunch at 83rd and Amsterdam. Walked over to the river. Walked ALL THE WAY DOWN to Battery Park. Thee took the subway to Unon Square. Shopped. Had refreshing beverage. Walked to Grand Central, took subway home.

My feet hurt a bit but in a good way. My knee hurts too. In a bad way but I really MUST watch where I step and I must PICK UP MY FEET.

But gosh, I love strolling Manhattan in the summer.

It is both beautiful and not here in Singapore.

It's raining, which mean it's not so hot that you could cook eggs in my hair.

But it's raining, which also means that you don't particularly want to leave the house.

PS I kinda cheated in the poll. I turn 20 in 6 days.

It was a glorious day in Minneapolis, too. I went forth and bought a road bike, then came home and went for a ride.

My American friends keep telling me that Americans don't eat lamb; I'm so glad this isn't true (at least of you). It's my favourite meat.

Saturday was yesterday, and I spent the whole damn day indoors; every time I thought about not working any more and going out instead, it started raining again, hard enough to change my mind.

Today, though, I am going to grab the sunshine before it goes away again. I'm going now...

I spent yesterday mowing the lawn and the prairie. Note to myself: you need to buy a bigger lawnmower.

I woke up at midnight Eastern time (5 am in Brighton, England), drove to Heathrow, and flew to JFK. Then I schlepped the gear to its drop-off point and schlepped me to GCT and then home. Went to Archie Moore's for dinner (I'd been craving a burger for a week but didn't indulge, since I was in the UK and, well, you know, Mad Cow), and collapsed utterly exhausted into bed at 9pm (2 am GMT).

Yesterday was a VERY long day.
