lagilman: coffee or die (Boomer)

I was reading innocently on the sofa early this morning, and Boomer decided to Stake A Claim. Which involved him jumping from the sofaback onto my stomach.

Uuufffd.

For those of you who've wondered about how large the Boomerang, Fool of a Took, Cat of No Brain, Meatloaf-in-training actually is? When he rested his chin on my collarbone, his tail (not a very long tail, considering) flicked just below my knees.

Stupid puma-wannabe.

Anyway, back at the desk for the morning for whatever work I can accomplish, then off to the vamp this afternoon. New vamp, new routine, new joy. Not.

Meanwhile, some publication updates for y'all.

1. I am told that my short story "apple: not a fairy tale" is scheduled for the upcoming Aeon #15
(August/September). I still have no idea how to categorize this one. I think I'm looking forward to reader reactions....

2. UNUSUAL SUSPECTS [with my Cosa Nostradamus series "Illumination"] is available for pre-order from Borders and Amazon.com, Chapters, in Canada, but not (yet) B&N. And, of course, any/all indie bookstores. Yes, the "cave dragon loanshark pondering an investment" description c'est moi....

3. It looks like there's a hiccup in the release of "Dreamcatcher" nobody thought to tell the author about. When I have an actual release date [after agent/editor/editor's assistant are back from RWA], I'll let y'all know.

And it looks to be another 90+ degree day today. Lovely.

Stupid puma-wannabe.

Has he heard about the 40 lb bobcat that had been kept as a house cat for 6 years or so in Waterbury til it took a walk down the block last month?

No love to the idjits who not only brought it back from Montana as a kit, but then compounded their idiocy by declawing it.

The bobcat is now on its way back to Montana, to an animal sanctuary there where it will live out its life in peace (with, one gathers, an ongoing supply of its favorite turkey legs for dinner every day).

I agree. I also have a thing about people who abandon animals. Two weekends ago, I saw a guy with a kitten in his arms on the street when going to my garage. When coming back from my garage on foot, I found said kitten in the alley behind my house, crying. Of course, I picked her up and brought her home. Of course, Shadow tried to attack her (Have I mentioned that Shadow is an only child and VERY VERY jealous and territorial?). Luckily, my neighbor who had a cat that died agreed to take this kitten on. She has two dogs and is very good with animals. The kitten took to the dogs without even hissing and the dogs were very good with the kitten.

BUT, if I ever see that guy on the street again, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind. It's one thing to take an animal that you don't want to the SPCA. It's totally another thing to abandon the animal in the city (or the country for that matter, though the French seem to think that abandoning an animal in the country gives it an natural food source. *sigh*)
