Normally I'm a fan of devil's advocates. But in this instance, there's a repeated pattern that holds up under scrutiny. Although the actual words of the joke are not confirmed, not even his camp is denying that he made a joke about women enjoying rape (and has made similar comments before, as well as associating with people who make similar comments). The article I linked to gives more specifics.

Anyone who makes those jokes is not someone I want anywhere near my life. Anyone in POLITICS who makes those jokes in a public forum? Well, like I said. If you're considering voting for him, be aware of what you'd be responsible for electing.

(I've looked hard and close at both options, McCain and Obama, and so far Oabama, while a *spits* politician the same as everyone else, hasn't shown himself to be on quite the same level-of-disgust as the Republican choice. And certainly shows greater respect for women, no matter what you think of his recent campaign-runners, than McCain ever did, up to and including how their treat their spouses)

I have to point out that I don't think this joke is about rape. I think it's a very thinly veiled joke about African Americans. I've known men from that generation and that level of republican evil, and have heard similar versions of the joke.

No reason it can't be both. Because when the joke references a woman who is thrown down, beaten, and sexually assaulted? That's not a metaphor. That's using rape as the set-up of a 'joke.'
