I heard gacked/gakked first here on LJ to mean seen and swiped from someone else's LJ. I've also seen "yoinked". Apparently there is a newish slang word "to gank" which means steal with the suggestion that gakked morphed from there. *shrugs and dumps a carmel apple into the bag*

I don't know the origin, just that I got it in college from the Computer Science majors I hung out with a lot. It's always been very much a colloquialism to me, something on the order of "to steal, but like a habit or a tendency, and in a fun way, not really hurting anyone else, and not involving taking an actual item."

Which probably doesn't really help, but those are the connotations that I've always had with the word.

Thing is - it's easy to see what gakked means the minute you see it in context. But where did the word come from? A typo, like "filk"? An acronym? Someone wanting to immortalize the sound their cat makes when hacking a hairball?
