Woke up late. Wrote 1200 words. Went to the gym. Came home. Found money in the mailbox. Settling down to write another chunk o'words, and make up some neat and hopefully plausible ways to make magic echo off-site storage. Soon I will make dinner.

And I will, at 8pm local, turn out all the lights for Earth Hour. Come on, let's all sit in the dark together, and see how many stars we can see...

Yelp if you're participating!

(and mind your hands, there! I can't see you, but I can still find ways to identfy you!)

EtA@11pm: 2189 new words total, and a pause needed to rethink the order of some action. But now, sleep,

Hoping to participate; I'm having dinner at someone else's home and don't feel I can impose it, but I'm bringing candles and presenting it as an option to my host.

ETA: in asking where the candles were at Whole Paycheck Foods I wound up in a conversation with the manager about Earth Hour, and he decided they couldn't work entirely in the dark, but that he'd dim the lights 8 - 9pm, and brief everyone working that shift so they can explain to customers.

Well, at 8pm your time, it will be 2am my time. So I will be sleeping and all my lights will be out. So, I guess I'm kind of participating.

I looked on the Net and France is not participating. This from the government that is touting (tauting? towting?) environmental values.

That is not to ecuse me. We had company last night so couldn't have participated in any case since the company in question would have looked askance at turning the lights out during the apéritif.

I'm participating! I'm so excited, we're at a debate tournament though, and it isn't much just to turn out the lights at a hotel room... but that's what we've got now...

That's an awesome idea... too bad I don't check my msgs often enough. The team turned everything off... but that's all I managed!

In five... four.... three...

With the exception of the lights providing heat to the reptiles, and the glare of the computer screen. All is dark at the beach house.

I did not see your post until this morning, but had heard about it from Barry, my news source. I not only turned all lights out, prior to that, I went through the house looking for things that are plugged in all the time but really don't need to be. They say that takes up far more power than we realize, and by simply unplugging *some* of those things, a homeowner can save more than $100 a year on the electricity bill.

Many of the big buildings and businesses downtown Chicago participated. The news reported a 5% drop in usage during that hour. That's pretty significant in a city this size.

We only heard about this event at 7:30, as the kids were gearing up to watch the Kids' Choice Awards on Nick. After some complaints about participating, we decided to play Scattergories by candlelight, and let the kids watch the replay of the awards at 10pm. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we decided to continue for another hour. Practical matters of getting the kids washed up before their program made us switch back to the 21st Century about 9:40. It was fun, and provided a good lesson for the kids. We may repeat the practice from time to time for energy saving and family reasons.
