checking in...
Mar. 22nd, 2008 01:25 pm1200 new words accomplished this morning. This afternoon, there is laundry, and the gym. And then, hopefully, more writing. That's a Saturday worth having. :-)
The story is flowing nicely, confirming certain stylistic decisions I made at the beginning, but I still worry it's going to come back and bite me on the ass come the second and third books...
When I wrote Staying Dead I had hoped that there would be more books, but I was mostly focused on getting the first one written, and then sold. By the time I realized I was writing a series, I was already two books in and starting the third. This time, I'm going in knowing that I have (at least) three books to write. It changes the way you approach the project, both globally and in the small details. I'm still discovering some of those as they occur.
It's a constant learning experience, this gig. The day I get through a project without a new understanding or approach is the day it's time to stop.
Also: have disovered this book does NOT want to be written to Tom Waits, but Nick Cave is quite fine, thank you. I seem to be trending to male voices for this project, even though the primary voice is female. Hrm....

Date: 2008-03-22 05:47 pm (UTC)Funny—I was having a similar thought earlier today. More along the lines of once upon a time I thought I knew how to write. Certainly knew how to tell a story. Then i became a writer. And the more I do this gig, the more I realize how much I have left to learn.
