WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer advocate Ralph Nader has announced he is running for president in the current White House race. Nader, who many Democrats say siphoned off enough votes from Al Gore in the 2000 election to hand the victory to George W. Bush by a razor-thin margin, made the announcement Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

I think I speak for many people when I say "shut up and sit down, Ralph!"

Lordy, the man's an idiot.

His supporters back in 2002 elevated him to rockstar status, and now he believes it. Add that to the fact that his goal going in in 2002 was to kick sand in Al Gore's face, and that he accomplished it, has probably left him seeing himself as some sort of modern-era Warwick the Kingmaker, except, of course, that his Heart Is Pure.

I doubt he'll have any impact on this one, though. The desperate moony-eyed voters who might have supported them already have a rockstar to support.

I've seen speculation that he's being paid to do it by the Republicans, which would not surprise me in the least.

Love the icon! I watched Stewart's interview with Larry King the other night. Every time I hear him speak seriously, I'm amazed at how intelligent and aware he is, and thoughtful in his opinions. I think he should be Secretary of State. Think how he could defuse those tense international confrontations!

FWIW, Himself was of the opinion (this was before today's news; he's elsewhere so I can't get a new comment yet) that if Nader ran, it would hurt the repubs this time. I can only hope.

Meh. I'm with holding judgement on that one. Yes, it would be damning if the favoring lobbyist thing is true, but the affair? A cheap shot, a low blow, and none of my damn business. Didn't we learn anything from the Clinton debacle? Politicians have been sleeping around since the beginning of time. I don't care. I care about what they do at their job.

This seems like smear campaign fodder. And my money is on some ultra conservative Republicans.

Heh. He said "No I didn't," flat out and plain. He may be lying, but he's given his answer and the onus is on the media or the public or whoever to prove him false.

Since I'm not voting for him regardless, I don't much care, except for any edge it might give the Dems, which it may. But if he is telling the truth, then the way he's handling this is pretty classy. And smart, not to let it get in the way of his message. I still say he's the best man the Republicans have to offer. I mean, really, how much would he have to lie to even come close to the Bushies?

Eh, it's not Ralph's fault the Democrats have routinely nominated uninspiring candidates. Nader will be powerless, though, if Obama gets the nomination. More young voters will get behind Obama than Nader.

The greatest and worst thing about this country is that everyone is free to make an ass of out of themselves.

And let's be honest, Nader didn't do that much in the 2000 election.

I would add a couple of words between "shut" and "up", but then I'm an uncouth savage.

If Ralph were genuinely interested in being a Crusader for the People, he wouldn't have spent the last 3.5 years in his groundhog's hole, ignoring all the issues he now wants to crusade against until it served his interest to bring them up.

I went into an absolute rage when I heard! He said on one of his interviews that "the candidates are not talking about the important issues." These issues he was speaking of were HEALTH CARE and MILITARY SPENDING. I nearly threw my suitcase at the television when I heard that! Except for the economy and the bashing of one another HEALTH CARE and MILITARY related issues are the only thing ANYONE is talking about.

He's such an annoying guy, seriously. He says that things need to change, but the only thing he seems to be able to do is waste money on failed campaigns for prez.

Ralphie, baby, the Corvair's left the design table to go into production, and it's already full of wing-nuts. Take your ball and go home.
