wednesday. it rains. I work.
Feb. 13th, 2008 11:23 amThe screenwriters' strike is officially over, pitchers and catchers report to training camp. Congrats to the WGA for scaring the studios [and hitting their wallets hard enough] enough that they were willing to negotiate in reasonably good faith. I hope it all works out equitably for you, and we get new shows soon. I'm very tired of reruns and reality tv.
And if Hollywood wants to option the Retrievers series, my agent and I are willing to talk now. Just FYI.
Worked my ass off yesterday, so treated myself to habenero pork chops and a glass of shiraz. Mmmm. I was smart, knowing that my chili powder is fierce, and used a blu cheese dressing on the salad. The touch of coolth was exactly what was needed to balance the heat.
Today, more working. If anything exciting occurs, I'll let you know.

Date: 2008-02-13 06:33 pm (UTC)Item 1: Most people want government services.
Item 2: Most people want to pay little or no taxes.
Question: How does the government pay for the services if they don't raise taxes?

Date: 2008-02-14 08:39 am (UTC)I grew up in MA, but now I live in France. And there is the same problem, except here EVERYONE want to be civil service cuz it's a guaranteed life-time position if you don't "screw the pooch". Civil servants complain that they don't make enough money. Inner city neighborhoods complain that they don't have enough budget at the end of the month. Everyone wants state-funds (e.g., housing assistance, free universities, national health insurance), but NO ONE wants to pay taxes. Add to that the fact that the government WILL continue to fund the military and the police and security forces, no matter what the opposition (loyal or not) thinks about it, and the amount of money available for the things that people expect their government to supply shrinks even more.
So where does the money for government services come from. Warren Buffet alone can't pay for eveything.

Date: 2008-02-13 07:49 pm (UTC)Threatening the Oscars will do that to the studios, apparently. Me, I think the Hollywood caterers' union got together and forced the studios to the table, fearing the loss of one of their major cash cows as more and more post-ceremony parties were cancelled....

Anyway, YAY! For the Writers Guild. It's awesome that I'll be able to watch tv again soon. I haven't since they struck... not that one person not watching tv does much, but it sure made me feel better. New episodes of Chuck please!
BTW, LAG, you are a really informative source of information. I generally read your blog before going on to read the paper... sad but true, I just wanted to say thanks for staying informed. Not everyone cares to, and it's nice that you do.
