The long term result I see of stuff like this is that the U.S. is setting itself up for serious economic damage down the line. Historically, nations that attract immigrants or make them feel safe are the ones that do well - like the United Provinces in the Early Modern era (1600s ish) and the United States after WWII. Having smart talented people come from everywhere, really motivated people, because they think life will be better in our country is one of the big things that helps us do so well as a nation.
If we get the reputation among the top smart people of the world as a bully and a sneak, those folks will travel to some other country/political unit (E.U.? Canada, Australia?) to settle and strive.
Oh, and it sucks for us in the short term too. But I would think the big corporate type people would be concerned about the long-term economic damage.
Sounds like business as usual, all over the place. I'm glad I don't have kids. My cat will most likely predecease me and I should only live about 40 more years, if I'm lucky. Good luck to you youngsters.
