Storm:

Bah. Another misfire, icky mess rather than wheeee!storm. *pouts*

Writing:

Today is research day. Although I'm not sure if anything that feeds one of my obsessions can really be considered "research." Like telling a chocoholic to go around tasting every form of cocoa they can find, and report back.... oo, look! Another website! With videos! And archives! And a store! Oh dear.

(on the other hand, it's also allowing me to e-mail total strangers all around the world and ask them nosy questions. Like being a reporter, only I get more respect [which is more of a sad commentary on reportage than it is a statement about people liking novelists...])

----------
Felines:

As I'm sitting here working, Pandora is sleeping by my hip, as usual. She let out this little mutter than means she's dreaming, and I reached down to pet her. Still asleep, she curled her paw around my fingers and pulled them in against her body, like she's hugging a teddy bear.

*melts*

I have never understood people who didn't want/like having animal companions. Physical restrictions (allergies, landlords, etc) are one thing, but to not want a fur-face around? I just don't get it. *shakes head sadly* Their loss.

I think I'll have to catnap her. On second thought, Shadow ould take a dim view of the idea. Hmmm. Keep posting kitty spam.

I like your feline posts. Logan is right next to me, too - every so often he rolls onto his back and shows off his tummy in the hope I'll rub it for him. Of course, I do. :)

I solved a health problem for my kitty this week -- no more itchy skin, hurray! -- and he went from all tense and cranky and growly to High King Cuddles. The amount of 'awww' mixed with relief that he was feeling better just made my weekend.

He had taken to really freaking out at, er, himself. His tail would twitch all over, he'd bite at it and his paws a little and growl and make these sad, hurt little noises. He didn't do much damage to himself but it was relentless, drove me up the wall, and he was pretty clearly in distress. I tried some dry skin and shedding fixes, and someone mentioned allergies -- then I remembered it started when I changed his food from kitten to grownup formula.

Two days after I swapped it back, he was 100% fine.

The actual result of weather is inversely proportional to the amount of hysteria in the local media. Thus, I was not surprised at all to wake up this morning to the sound of rain.

Our felines decided that I needed to be Up! So I could get in my appointed place on the couch so they can sit on me!! I can understand not wanting a fur-face blocking one's computer screen, but the rest escapes me, too.

I'm sure any one of my family members in Maine who have been bellyaching about their snow totals since before Christmas would be happy to trade places with you. ;)

In my case I grew up on a farm where, to quote my sister's PhD advisor, all the animals had jobs. Cats stayed outside where the mice, rats, birds, and snakes lived so they could hunt. (No fuzzy belly rubs and teddy-bear hugs with that If-you're-not-prey-you're-not-fun crew.)

That doesn't mean I don't like pets in general and cats in specific. I've always petted and scratched ears freely.

You have just described, in part, why I do not understand people who do not want children in their lives.

Yes, I have allergies, and hence am very not fond of animal companions, but the gentle interaction you just described perfectly captures the absolute purity of a moment of parental joy.

Just sayin'

Neither Cory (see icon) nor Mason (who is a cat) understands how people live with cats. Remy (who is a dog) totally agrees with you.
