After two days of worry and concern among her friends,
kathlaw's body was found late this afternoon along the San Pedro River by a group of hikers. The police estimate time of death sometime around sundown on Thursday.
*mourn*
She was smart, acerbic, occasionally short-tempered, witty, stubborn, incredibly talented, and innumerable other things beside. And I will miss her.
Damn it. Damn it damn it damn it
*tears*
Kath comitted suicide. Blunt fact. She ended her own life. I'm not religious, I don't consider it a sin. A waste, yes, and not an act I can easily forgive, but not a sin.
But for those who might be uncertain, I'd like to share with you something my rabbi told us once, back when we were still meeting on Sundays for bagels and interpretive arguments (aka Rabbi's Class, the sunday school for adult-kids). He said, and I've always remembered this, "Life is a gift given to us, and only god should decide when it's done. But for that much pain, god has mercy."
May there be mercy, and peace, and a light to guide her home. Amen.

a memory...
Date: 2004-03-27 09:18 pm (UTC)When I left Roc, she sent me a lovely letter, saying how she had come to rely on the Roc imprint for finding new authors she could take a chance on, knowing that she wouldn't be disappointed, and how she would miss having that reliance, going forward.
I don't think I ever told her how very much that letter meant to me.
Kath? If you've managed to scam a laptop and ethernet connection already... Thank you. I miss you.
