Well, we have had our ice storm. We can not do that again this season, please? Because yes, very pretty and shiny and eye-wateringly bright this morning, but a righteous pain in the patoot to clean up after.

Darcy, however, once again comes through like the trooper he is -- while other people on the street were trying to cut out of the ice banks and swearing as their cars slipped, skidded, and generally didn't want to move, with a little digging around the tires, my little Audi That Could just hopped over the ice crust and rolled out into the plowed areas.

*pets Darcy*

Next time? More snow and less sleet, please. Much more fun.

All we got was rain, instead of the ice they predicted. Yesterday, we got the wind, but not the snow they also predicted.

We needed the rain- in the summer. Heh.

our storm was disappointing. there was ice that had delusions of being snow but of course, this being the city - it turned to muck and ice the minute it hit the ground. Yesterday some of it started to melt a tad and today the wind (bone-rattling) is turning it all BACK into slick, icy accidents waiting to happen.

Made my trip to Housing Works much more treacherous than anticipated

Cat litter (clean of course) is useful on ice, and less of an environmental problem than rock salt. Stove ash works too, but is way too messy.

Re: Stove ash

Don't emulate a former co-worker and burn old lumber and cedar shingles complete with nails, and then use the ash on the driveway...

Heh! There's such a thing as being too frugal.

There's also such a thing as being a drunk. I'm not sure how sober Lew might have been when he pulled that trick.

I tried that "thin layer" routine yesterday, running our snowblower before the end of the storm. We got enough rain to soak through the remainder...

I had fun (not) standing on top of an ice pile waiting for the bus to the train station this morning. I was stunned that the bus was only 5 minutes late, despite the fact that the traffic heading downtown on Whitney was *crawling* and stretched all the way down to Trumbull St. All hail, New Haven Public Works!! :P It took half an hour to get to the train station. (Fortunately, I just made my train.)
