And so Karl Rove is resigning from his position in the White House.

Despite my first wild leap of glee at seeing the headline, natural caution (acquired pesssimism) soon set in. I'm sure this is just a way to avoid, somehow, answering questions under oath while still doing damage.

(still. The official Age of Rovercizing is over. This calls for sparkling in the breakfast oj, to my mind)

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] alfreda89 points out that the White House is using this moment to also finally utter the D-word -- not Democrat, but draft. Johnnie and Jane, put down your college books and pick up your gun, your Führer, er, president calls upon you....

(yes, I hate Rove. Not dislike, not even distrust, although lord knows that's there too. I hate the man for the damage done under his hand and by his word, and if I were the type to burn things in effigy, he'd be first on the list.)

I think he's just going to go private and come back as a lobbyist. There's just no way that he's actually leaving the sinking ship.

Or to start working on someone's campaign.

Actually, the news this morning said that the subpoenas would follow him wherever he went.

He's not getting away from it this easily.

Well, although I'd hate to see a draft, it might remind some people why war sucks. On the other hand, most of those supporting the war will get exemptions from the draft and it will be the "usual suspects" that get rounded up.

You are right that it should be a coed equal opportunity draft, but my response would be "Hell no, I won't go!"

I wonder if Rove would be able to fight a Congressional subpoena as a former WH employee.

And I would like to think that the proposal to institute a draft for Iraq would be the final straw to add to an impeachment bonfire. Unfortunately, I don't think we can just walk out, now. We should never, ever have gotten in to begin with, but I'd like to see Petraeus (sp?) given a chance. He had a decent approach, at least.

Agreed, I loathe and detest Rove. I am suspicious of his resignation at this time and can't help but feel there's a hidden agenda there.

Professional military people don't want a draft. They don't want to have anybody beside them who doesn't want to be there. It will vastly lower the quality of the army we have. Plus you can't teach someone what they need to learn in only two years. Most jobs are become technical, even the Poor Bloody Infantry, and you can't have any dummies. I tell kids today to not join the military because being shot at sucks...

*being shot at sucks.*

As does having bombs blow up in your face, suffering from friendly fire, having idiots tell you what to do just because they have brass on their uniforms,…
