I must, deductively, be home.

And so Phase 1 of Operation Traveling Meerkat has concluded with a little more excitement than I wanted (car-related hijinks, hopefully all sorted now). Readercon was lovely, the panels were all lively and well-attended, and both signing and reading left me with a warm glowy feeling of actually reaching new people

(the highlight of the signing had to be E. coming over with a thumb drive [containing the manuscript for FREE FALL, which I had been taunting her with] for me to sign. Which I of course did. Inscription and all.)

I was a dreadfully dull evening meerkat, however -- to bed by midnight each night. Limited drunken socializing. Considering the schedule for the next month or so, it seemed wise...

For those who may need reminding:

next Saturday I am signing at the Borders in Milford, CT, 2-4pm. EtA3: I am moron -- Necon (Rhode Island) the weekend before ComicCon! I Then I depart for lovely and hopefully not-too-hot California on the next Wednesday, starting with the San Diego ComicCon Thursday-Sunday, and then up to San Francisco for signings at Borderlands (Thursday evening, 7pm) and Clayton Books (Clayton, CA) on Saturday August 4th, 2pm. A foray into the wine country is also in the works, natch. Then I come home for a few days, and am off again to Armadillocon (Austin, TX). Hope to see people at each stop! Home mid-August, just in time to turn (whee!) 40.

Oh yeah, and on August 1st, I start writing Retrievers 6.

Preemptive tired, me.

EtA: as per newly-landed e-mail, looks like I will be bringing Major Freelance Project with me to California. Wheeee....

EtA2: during aforementioned hijinks, I read Sara Beth Durst's INTO THE WILD. It's YA in the classic sense -- meaning us adults with a sensawondah will love it, too. Much fun. Recommended. Go, buy.

Next Saturday, as in this coming Saturday, the 14th? If so, do you have any plans for that evening? If not, how about I come up for the signing and we go out for dinner?

Tell all about Comicon - they're importing some of the talent from Torchwood to pimp the show. Not pretty boy, though, alas.

What's a thumb drive?

And, are you still doing Necon? I'm on my first few sips of coffee, but didn't see it in your list.

Tina!! Howdy.

Thumb drives aka flash drives...If you glance around a computer store you will see them. They usually look like little thumbs and are miniture hard drives. Stick them into a computer, copy stuff onfto them, then carry the info to where ever you like (ie; another computer.)

Hi SFMarty!

I know the little buggers as flash drives, though the term thumb drive makes complete sense visually.

Oh, and Laura Ann, bring a sweater to San Francisco. Yah never know. I have the heater on now, for instance.

Also, COMIC-CON!!!!!! Ahem.

Car Hijinks

Must be that time of year, says the guy who spent his evening a) figuring out where the low-pressure AC port is on K's Focus, b) working to access same (took a bit of work), and c) recharging said AC so it blows cold again for her.

This was a fine distraction from the major mad (somewhat vehicle-related) described in the most recent two posts of my own LJ -- click on my name if you want to hear my thoughts on thieves...

Glad you had fun at Readercon, hope your car hijinks were both relatively harmless and easily corrected.
