WASHINGTON - "President Bush, moving toward a constitutional showdown with Congress, asserted executive privilege Thursday and rejected lawmakers' demands for documents that could shed light on the firings of federal prosecutors.

Bush's attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor. Congressional panels want the documents for their investigations of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' stewardship of the Justice Department."

Aaaaaand, the money shot:

...Thursday was the deadline for surrendering the documents. The White House also made clear that Miers and Taylor would not testify next month, as directed by the subpoenas, which were issued June 13. The stalemate could end up with House and Senate contempt citations and a battle in federal court over separation of powers.

Two words for you, Georgie. Richard Nixon.

Three more words. Still. Not. King.

(and the timing of this, right before the 4th of July, delights me. Who's got a musket? Who's got a flag?)

Questions, questions

Can the president be charged with contempt of Congress? What happens if he's convicted? Censure? Impeachment?

Does he play the Lion King soundtrack in the Oval Office?

I'll believe that Congress has actually grown a spine when I see it, I'm afraid.

Them that likes him will say COngress is being unreasonable. Them that don't (like us!!!!) will say what has been posted. If they don't file impeachment and win (which they can't without the Republicans signing on) it doesn't signify anything. Especially with the SUpreme Court as it is today. * siiiiiiiigggh!*

I gots a flag.

Would you settle for a 357 Magnum with .45 bullets? Much bigger payload...

Except, the Schmuck and the Supreme Court majority are from the same pod of podpeople. They're like the sons of Haman--too vile for giving separate breaths too.

(The Fascist Five's decisions yesterday include apparently one that struck down a Supreme Court ruling in 1911 which declared it illegal and a restraint of trade to require retailers to use the manufacturer's suggested retail price.)

If it goes to the courts, the fascists have been packing the courts for more than a full generation, Clinton's picks for the courts were bottled up by the Republicraps and the federal courts are packed with the leftovers of Tricky Dick, the choices of Ronnie Raygun, those of Bush I, and those whom the illicitly appointed election-fraudmongering worst-President-ever monster is beholden to and/or approves of.
