on being a natural-born freelancer...
Jun. 25th, 2007 06:59 amI am really, really bad about taking time off.
Not that I don't enjoy it -- I do. Being able to laze about without guilt is a rare and lovely thing.
But everything is so built around integrating work+play=Life that when one element is missing, I feel out of whack. External deadlines keep the blood pumping even better than caffeine. I even write better when there's something else breathing down my neck to get done.
*raises gaze to NYC, from whence most work doth come*
(mind you, I just turned around a copy-writing job in 48 hours, even while I was 'relaxing.' This is what I mean about being bad about taking time off -- to me that was time off.)
In the meanwhile, there's a short story that has been rather surprisingly patient about me finishing it that deserves its turn in the barrel. If I'm a good girl, maybe something will appear in my in-box by the time I'm done with it...
EtA: 10:40 am. Story draft finished. Nothing in in-box. Drat. Also: no more coffee for me. Neurons are vibrating.
