Jun. 20th, 2007 10:45 pmAnd lo, the revised manuscript for Retrievers 5, now called FREE FALL, has been delivered to Madame Editor. I have seen a preliminary sketch for the cover, I have seen (and rewritten) the copy for same.
I am, to all intents and purposes, done with this book.
Oh, there will be a copyedit and page proofs to look over, but the heavy lifting is complete.
The five-book story arc I started with STAYING DEAD (not realizing that I was starting any such thing) is done.
*pauses to contemplate that*
Wow.
The outline for Book 6, which will be a stand-alone Wren & Sergei adventure, has been approved. I'm eager to get my teeth into it -- its going to be fun to write. Mad chases and serious skulduggery, and grand theft magical...
But first I'm going to take some time off. Maybe write some hard SF, or splattery horror, or out-and-out romance. Or not write at all. *contemplates that*
EtA: of course, I also got offered another freelance gig today, and there's something brewing on both the short- and long-term horizon. So the vacation will be of modified nature...

Date: 2007-06-21 03:16 am (UTC)This is quite the impressive thing you've done here, and I say this as someone who remembers when Wren and Sergei were just these two characters you had vague ideas about.
Very very very well done. *tosses confetti*

Date: 2007-06-21 11:38 am (UTC)It's funny -- I guess like with kids, those days seem both so very long ago and as it was just yesterday. I have a very clear memory of sitting with madame editor on the outdoor patio of a restaurant in NYC, telling her about this other project I had, that was more contemporary than the historical she was looking at....

Date: 2007-06-21 01:40 pm (UTC)Just pointing out that this is a leettell teeeensy bit of a spoiler about 5. You'll remember that at the end of Burning Bridges there's not much "and" in Wren & Sergei. I mean yes, one does rather expect this to be resolved in 5, but still.
