Ooo, and Jimmy Carter delivers a smackdown to Bush and Blair.

from the AP report:

"Former President Carter says President Bush's administration is "the worst in history" in international relations, taking aim at the White House's policy of pre-emptive war and its Middle East diplomacy....

"I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history," Carter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in a story that appeared in the newspaper's Saturday editions. "The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me...."

Carter also lashed out Saturday at British prime minister Tony Blair. Asked how he would judge Blair's support of Bush, the former president said: "Abominable. Loyal. Blind. Apparently subservient."

"And I think the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world," Carter told British Broadcasting Corp. radio.

Except that actions taken by Carter under his administration are no small part of the reasons we're in this mess in the first place. While I may agree with the sentiments he's expressed here, Carter should be the absolute last person to chastise anyone for meddling in the Middle East.

I've disagreed with a lot of what Carter has said and written recently, but think he was spot on in his analysis here.

Oh, I'm certainly not trying to elevate Bush in this scenario in any way. The man's a destructive moron, plain and simple.

And - but of course. To each their own.

Jimmy Carter is the epitome of an honorable man. I hate to say that "they don't make them like that anymore" but really - do they - in politics, anyway?

Just comparing him to that maniac currently ensconced in the White House makes me ill. I mean - Carter is a highly intelligent man of sterling integrity. When he was in the White House, he pushed through the Camp David Accords and did everything to avoid a war with Iran even when everyone was screaming at him to invade.

On the other hand we have the Maniac (G.B.), who, in his unjustified rush to war with Iraq is, I believe, personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, not to mention Iraqi civilians. He's like a little boy who wanted to play cowboys & Indians and now can't seem to grasp the mess that he's made.

Anyway, that's my humble opinion.

Yeah, I like JC too. Although I didn't way back when. What can I say? I was young and foolish and under the influence of a Republican mother?
