anyone not watching the Walter Cronkite special on CBS tonight? Beg, borrow or DVR a copy.

In a world where we have Faux News, spinmeisters, plastic-faced teleprompt readers and newsblogging set for your specific flavor of politics, it's good to be reminded what being a newsman meant, once upon a time.

So much of the news clips they're showing, I remember watching. And it's wonderful to realize that Walter was as caught up in the wonder, the horror, the fascination of it all, too.

At his birth, Clio danced. At his death (may it be far hence), she will weep.

Amen. Perhaps the last of the honest men. He was so much a part of my growing up. Everyone knew you could trust Walter.
