lagilman: coffee or die (s.u.r.i.)

This weekend I tried something new, foodwise -- ramps, or wild leeks. They were served sauteed, with a roasted garlic tartlet, and the greens tasted like I'd always hoped that sauteed spinach would -- dark green and bitter, with an underlying hint of sweetness -- but more delicate than spinach usually is.

Altogether excellent, and while the season may be passing for them, if you see them on a menu anyhwere, I highly recommend trying them!

(in addition to being tasty, they're also very high in Vitamins C and A, iron, and dietary fiber)

Alton Brown did a whole episode on leeks. Ever had Leek Potato Soup (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_29689,00.html)? Yummers.

I love spinach pretty much any way you make it...but especially raw with avocado and goat cheese.

I don't get how you can like spinach and not sprouts...! Cool, crisp sprouts...
